Improving Skills

Hi All,

I'm new to the RuneQuest fold, but I like what I have read in the main rulesbooks such that I will be running it as a campaign. (picked it up at the local games convention last weekend)

Now what I wanted to know, is that when you increase your skills, if you roll less than your skill you only increase by 1 point... now this is basically saying to get values over 100% you never roll and it is only increased by 1 point?

I have enjoyed the Gloranta setting from old HeroQuest (mainly the board game ;) ) and a few other releaed products I have floating around. I am looking forward to using the setting again...

Welcome to the game.

The simple answer is that you are correct. Skills will go up very slowly with natural progression as the approach (and pass) 100.

That being said there are a couple of ways to accellerate skill progression past 100. You can find a REALLY GOOD mentor. They would of course need a skill over 200. But if you have a mentor with a skill of 250%, you can add 25 to your improvement roll, and go up 1d6+1 if you roll above your skill.

Another way (in Glorantha at least) would be by HeroQuesting. Rewards are left up to the GM, but skill bonuses are one of the main rewards for completing HeroQuests. HeroQuesting is coverd in the book Magic of Glorantha.
