I like this Map

Don't hate me, guys, but my pro work is just getting in the way. After my initial set of commissioned map objects and map to Profantasy, they just gave me a new commission to create 300 map objects for their Modern settings SS3 package for Campaign Cartographer.

That's going to push away the Hyborian map, another month? I apologize, because I really do want to work on that map! Still commissions are more a priority for me - I'm an artist working in a sucky economy, so I've got to "show me the money," before doing stuff I'd rather do.

I will get to it! No excuses here. Again, sorry.

By all means, make your money first. Like some one mentioned, the economy is awful and unemployment is rising by the minute. If you can make money doing something you love, do it.

I thought I'd give you til March before I respectfully asked if you had an update, but I figured "what the hell, it's been a month".

Seriously, I am very interested in this project. Vincent's map is already my favorite, it'd be great to see it redone by a pro.

I'm with you AKAmra... I can't wait.

Hey, I have an idea: let's start a collection for GP. Maybe a PayPal account or something. I'd throw in $20 for a good map. I'm sure other people would throw in a $5... it could end up being a pretty good amount.

Or even better, Mongoose can foot the bill :)

I know this could be considered a personal question, but what would a typical job like this cost?

Oh yeah, I found this:

It's a coincidence you mention this. I didn't want to break any forum rules, but I was going to ask if Gameprinter had a tip jar.

Isn't that the Mongoose Hyboria map included in the Conan: The Ultimate Guide table top book?

If you go to this Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Conan-Ultimate-Worlds-Savage-Barbarian/dp/0756620953/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235777787&sr=1-1

Choose to "search inside the book". You'll see the map.

I got a bit confused that you were referring to the map in the post prior to yours. But, the map in the Conan: Ultimate Guide does appear to be the Mongoose Map.

I have the book and went through the credits, but I didn't find Mongoose in the credits. Maybe the artist is credited or the IP holder can use the map?

The Mongoose Maps are pretty, but I like the accuracy of Vincent D's map.

Agreed.

Vincent's maps have the substance, but, let's face it, they're quite ugly and hard to use.

OTOH, the Mongoose maps are beautiful, but chock full of errors, according to those "in the know".

Until a map is created that is both accurate and wonderful to look at, it will come down to the question of what is more important to you? Shine or Substance?

Hi guys,

Well, as we all know, MG's maps are not the most accurate ones. So what I did was that I took Vincent's map and converted it into Illustrator CS3. I outlined the borders and then imported it into Photoshop and that's where I am now. I started in the western part of Hyboria and work my way towards the east and south. Here's what I've got so far. Please let me know what you think of it so far. And be honest. I can take it :D!!

The map gonna be huge and my plan is to make an "Atlas View" of Hyboria first with less details, and then take country by country and make more accurate maps later on.

I use Return to the Road of Kings, Vincent's maps and lots of other MG-sources to get as much information as possible. So we'll see what will come out in the end.

I'm glad you found some time to start this project. It looks like a great start to me and I'll be eagerly following this thread.

Hopefully, Vincent D. and other more knowledgeable users will chime in with some useful suggestions to help with the map as you go along.
