This is Free Trader Beowulf, calling anyone… Mayday, Mayday… We are under attack… / The Traveller TTRPG Core Rulebook has been updated in PDF and book format!
I would NOT be concerned about the CRB being 4 years old. It's really just a new layout of the original 2016 second edition one, with one major chapter change (the Sindal Sector - available in other products - was swapped for basic ship construction - available in another product). Anyone who owns Pirates of Drinax and High Guard has all the main stuff from both versions.
Given that the previous version went six years before that minor update, and Mongoose's frequent assurance that they have no edition cycle agenda, it should be fine. It's not totally impossible that we might see another physical update in a few years... but most likely it will just be occasional updates to the .pdf as we saw in 2024 and recently (the 2026 update literally changed one small part of one table in ship construction so that it was the same as in High Guard). If you bought it, you can download those updates.
If Mongoose are getting to the end of a print run, AND there's some clear reason to move things around or make changes, we may see a physical book update like 2022.
It was updated in 2025 with a new cover and some rules changes , most noticeable the change to ship bridges. This change has since been declared an error and I believe the pdf has been updated... but anyone with the dead tree copy has different rules.
A lot of people buy books and don't bother with pdfs, especially at the table.
