That’s the question to ask in 6 months or a year.
At present demand is far higher than had been expected and they are having to ramp up production to meet demand. That is always a good sign in a new product. The trick is then to maintain that interest.
Considering that its TREK which gives it first glance recognition anywhere, you could set up a gaming table in the middle of a shopping centre and people walking past would recognize the Klingons and Federation. It seems to be bringing in the ACTA players from B5 and NA, the FC players, the SFB players and others who have never played any of those games but are drawn in because its Star Trek.
There is a vast background, entire new races and fleets, expansions etc to keep new stuff rolling in for the next 5 years. This isn't the re-release the old army list with new figures every few years theme of some other companies. This is genuinely new stuff year after year.
People seem extremely interested, people seem to want more.
It may be that this game will propel Mongoose to the dizzy heights of GWdom
Unfortunately I think this will be Mongoose's project to fail at, Mongoose has something of a reputation for errors, flaws, misprints etc that make them their own worst enemy. The hard core fans forgive them, expanding to a much wider customer base and then selling flawed products will not be forgiven or forgotten so quickly.
I will be supporting them, and buying books and ships. But this is something that will become great or fade to a niche game based on Mongoose and Mongoose alone. We can support them as much as we can but we cannot explain away poor quality or mistakes that should have been spotted.
If Mongoose can maintain both Quantity AND Quality this game will, I think, soar.
