Actually it would be they-ssi, it does not rhyme with messy. Trust me Considering the skin color of the dessi's, I think I am pretty sure where joe dever got his inspiration from in real life for the dessi name, and population of its people.

I rhyme it with messy. In general I guess that me being a Swede (reading the first books in Swedish) I pronounce certain words (Kai for example) totally different than if I had read them in English.

Well among my group it's been from DES-sigh to DES-SEE...so there within lays the argument.

Well, Joe Dever pronounces it Dessi (to rhyme with Messi) but you and your group are perfectly welcome to say it any way you like. After all, your game is your game first and foremost.

That's what August said about Joe's way of pronouncing it. As for myself, that's how I've always pronouced it too.
