Mongoose
Hi,

I have been reading the first book in Arn trilogy (a Swedish book set in around 1100). Now I am wondering how I would be able to run a campaign that contains building manors and possibly handling mass combat with MRQ rules.

I know that Harn and Pendragon might be good games to rip off some rules but I am asking this in the hope that someone has already done the work :)

Or is that kind of supplement in the pipeline from Mongoose?

Thanks!

Legendary heroes contains a mass combat system. It looks ok! i have not used it myself yet!!
I think the equipment or companion book had stuff on buliding houses/ forts.
Check the wiki for more info on the companion.
It would run nice,
also check out stupor mundi.. (i think it called that), it a historical medivial campaign.

Okay, I have to check out those books. I don't have Legendary Heroes but I guess that I might have to get it now if no other reason than getting the mass combat system.

Actually I think of a more fantasy setting than strictly historical (although without usual fantasy races) that is heavily based on something along the lines of Arn and even Song of Fire and Ice.

Do you know if there are any info about servants, man-at-arms etc. household personnel in any of those books? Yes, I know that I am a lazy person but also one with precious little time to do real research at the librarry :P

The mass combat rules in Legendary Heroes are good. Someting we've adopted for eventual use.

Lordly Domains for Pendragon had good and easily adapted rules for manors, as you know, but these were a little too vague for a game based around running a manor, they were much more about background material/mechanics.

Harnmanor is your real source for such stuff depending on the level of detail you want. Sometimes they go too far, however, depicting the running of a manor, feeding yourself and your clan, looking after your animals, etc, as a full time job with no time for such staples as going on adventures, slaying dragons and finding treasure...completely far-fetched and unreasonable IMHO...

Okay, maybe I have to check those books, too. Thanks! I mainly want to get a feeling what kind of people were in the manors of nobles and how many. I am not going to run a resource management game at least primarily but if those books are good for reference then I guess that I am set.

Thanks for suggestions!

If you´r going to get a great helper for fleshing out the "land" then i must recommend Renegade Crowns to Wfrp. you can use it in rq with very little adaption (change the monster types, remove proffesions that dont mess well with an 1200 (or is it earlyer setting)
But as a helper that book is great!!

In Equipment guide there are some stats for hirelings! But if i understood right are they doing a better Stating in GM's guide.
(i'll get the guide for sure)

You know, funnily enough I have this Renegade Crowns as well :P I guess that I will get this GM book as well and probably get the Legendary Heroes. Then I can get some sort of mix that will allow me to run Arn-type political games as well as Witcher type adventure games in the same world.

Thanks for the tip!
