just a thread for people to alternately praise/complain about the mother of all War PL ships, the Bin'Tank (yes its deliberately misspelled)

Hooray Bin'Tank!!

Hopefully not misnamed in honor of Tank, no bad dicerolling shall befall my Bin'Tak.

Oh Ive named it Kuun'Laan in honor of a certain ship, cookie for who knows which one :D

Mine hasnt died yet, though that fate hasnt happened to a G'Quan of mine as well, and is a true parade ship, it simply cant go any faster than that. Have yet to wait for a good Iontorp effect, but the Heavy Laser cannon has produced likeable results:

"What your hyperion is already dead, but ive only fired the laser cannon....." (everything except the shortranged secondaries was supposed to shoot it, ran our ot targets).

-1speed is a bad thing to happen first turn....especiall if you forget to repair it for a turn :S Get somewhere, mother of all ships!!!!

Snaffles the spicy Somtaw-flavoured cookie. Discovers it's infected by the Beast and decides not to eat it.

The bin'tak is excellent, though. Tank is pretty accurate - no subtle stealth, interceptors, GEG's or other frippery, just 6+ armour and waaay more hitpoints than any non-ancient warship except supercarriers.....and any ship with 7 seperate front weapon systems is not something you want to be in front of

I too prefer the Bin'Tak when fighting Minbari, but my son now is trying out shadows and he totally wasted my Bin'Tak with some serious dice rolling, getting lots of criticals and rendering the unit from full health to crippled status in one hit.

But it's still a great brawling ship.

Nightmares about Minbari said:
Incidentally, probably the best ship to go hunting Minbari in.

Got a pair of them, core of my Narn fleet! Warm gooy feelings whenever they are used!

Have you actually used both in a single battle? Oh, do tell!

largest battle I've used them in was both of them, and four G'Quan up against Minbari, three sharlins and some lighter stuff.

Battle was very bloody, think three of the G'Quan were destroyed, as was one Bin'Tak, however the Minbari fled the field when down to two sharlin, both with some damage, against the remaining Bin'Tak (undamaged) and G'Quan (some damage).

No tactical brilliance involved, just dogged determination and concentration. Also not giving up on turn one when two of the G''Quan were taken out of the fight by long range Neutron laser fire helped.

Incidentally, this isn't the first time I've seen a battle tide turn half way through. If things start off badly, don't give up, the tide may turn. To my mind this shows that the game is fairly well balanced, nothing is a forgone conclusion. OK, except my attempts to use EA, just can't get them to work properly.

I've noticed that tendency toward the turning of the tide when playing Narn. I've lost a lot of G'Quans and Skirmish ships during the opening turns of a battle, often times due to long range fire that I can't adequately respond to (Minbari and Centuari beams being the usual culprit) or due scenario setup.
Much of the time, though, its the sheer toughness of the Bin'Tak or Rongoths that manage to carry the day. There been many fights Ive been in which saw my Ka'Tans and G'Quans wiped off the board but I still manage to win due to that toughness

Although the narns are definitely the come-back kings, I've found this about ACTA with most races. the opening turns are not always as decisive as they appear to be.

Minbari are also capable of this. just because your stealth isn't working in the first couple of turns, don't give up, sometimes the dice will just turn on your enemy and he'll not get lockon again for the rest of the battle.

Yes, I definatly agree that the Bin'tan(k) is the best warship in the game right now, followed very very close by the Octurion.
But I find this only to be the case because the Warlock has uped to Armageddon. Tackticly that was the best War level in SOFS.

And now it sucks at arama lvl :(

Nah, in SFoS the Bin'Tak was always the best War choice (well, after discounting Sharlins and Shadows anyway). That thing just bristled with lots of primary, secondary and tertiary weaponry. The Warlock was always a step or two back from the Bin'Tak, its main selling point was the AJP.
