2+ armour? Thats a little poor for a carrier built off of a battlecruiser isn't it? I think 3+ would be better.
Very little battlecruiser was left above the waterline, and a LOT was added. I might have given her 3+ myself though.

Armour is indeed 3+.

The highly mixed air group is unlikely - suggest 2 or 3 flights of Swordfish and Fulmars is more realistic.

But she wasn't an early war carrier, she survived the war...

Admittedly she was put into reserve in 1944, but none of those aircraft are post 1944...

I actually got the aircraft fight information from an operational list

9 hurricanes
23 swordfish
12 fulmars
10 albacores

Thsi was the actual aircraft she had on according to that list

I wasnt sure about the armour hence my asking the question

Thanks

Interesting. I should have said mid war I guess, I admit I was wrong. I would still put it along side the Ark Royal for aircraft flights though.
THough the ability to upgrade aircraft flights to Seafires would nice.

From your link mate

June 1941 - 9 Fairey Fulmar, 4 Hawker Sea Hurricanes, 9 Fairey Albacore and 18 Fairey Swordfish

if you look at 41 especially there are 3/4 different aircarft on board at the same time. I suppose for the game they picked the most common ?

Thats right, we did :) or at least I have whilst developing the expanded RN stats. Its always possible to find odd periods when carriers apparently had the most eclectic mix of aircraft, but these are generally brief and occur when squadrons are changing, on detachment or short deployments (such as the 880Sqn detachment, not part of Furious' normal complement during that month). Operating multiple types was a logistics nightmare (one of the aspects of warfare that us wargamers like to ignore!)

Its also worth noting that the website isn't entirely consistent since the squadron listing only has the first Albacore squadron embarked in July 1942 - in fact they were embarked along with the Sea Hurricanes for a raid against German positions around Kirkenes and Petsamo.

EDIT - the other interesting observation is the apprent sparse air group in May 1941 (only 3 Fulmar apparently) - actually during this period Furious was ferrying fighters to Malta; her air group was largely taken ashore and the space freed up taken by 48 RAF Hurricanes.

The oddity isn't the having that many sorts of aircraft on board, most US carriers had at least three different types on board, it the fact that of the four types in your list each pair of aircraft have the same role (Fulmar and Sea Hurricane = Fighters, Albacore and Swordfish = Torpedo bombers).
The three types on a US carrier would each perform a different role.

In game it just makes more sense to have all the aircraft of the same role the same type, simpler that way.

Carrier air wings were a lot more dynamic in the WW2 period than they are now. The technology allowed it. It was relatively quick and simple to disembark, for example, a squadron of Swordfish and to embark Albacores, or to accept detachments form other ships and squadrons for special ops and missions. Today changing from one aircraft type to another requires much, much more effort.

The US also benefitted from a rather more estblished and stable (not to ssay effective) range of CV capable aircraft, whereas the FAA operated a real hotch-potch of aircraft ranging from the excellent to the completely useless. Even in later years the mix of US and British types was quite diverse
