what with this and the discovery of the wreck of HUNTER recently there is an awful lot for marine archaeologists and forensic types like me to get their teeth into just now :)

I wonder if they will listen to the Kormoran's survivor's description of the battle now.

I hope that they get good pics. and maybe a book like the ones that Robert Ballard puts out like Bismarck and Lusitania.
 
I would dearly like to get involved in a bit of marine archaelogy, really - projects like this and the Mary Rose are quite interesting, and I could do with an excuse to get my drysuit on more often.

ISTR they do a summer course down at Southampton or Portsmouth on the subject - you know anything about that DM?

Oddly the wikipedia article on HMAS Sydney was up a few weeks ago as the featured article (before the discovery). Was the first I'd read about it - very curious engagement. Why did the Sydney get so close? Lots of questions may be answered as the salvage/investigation goes on.
