So, basically we get high guard with all the rules for building and using ships, around half of the planned companion book plus more or less an entire ship supplement, all in one book..?

Well, not quite :) But there is more info in High Guard now than we had originally planned.

And you said there was no Santa!
You can use HG 2e to build space stations.
Space stations with Improved Stealth.
Buffered planetoid space stations with Improved Stealth.

You know that part of me that didn't have much of an interest in building ships? Now space stations ... that's a whole other matter altogether.

First try wouldn't download. Second try gave a partial download. Third try was the charm. You have 31Mb in the description but it's closer to 45Mb. I assume something was added to the files.

Unpacked and looking at a few, no display issues. They look good. Wait, the Rock? Where is that from? Sounds soooo familiar.

The Rock... Could be the Chapter Monastery/main base/flagship of the Dark Angels chapter of Space Marines, from Warhammer 40k? Built upon the remains of their base and what's left of their home-planet Caliban.

Nah, it's the house-sized spy ship from the old LBB Adventure, Expedition to Zhodane.

Oh. Not quite the same scale then :)

I only guessed based on the name, and the only sci-fi reference I could think of, looks like I was waay off!
 The appearance of Pebble earlier in the book was a giveaway for me. :)

Ah, so basically you cheated by having more information than me :)

What or who is Pebble, if I might ask?

(Haven't read/played expedition to Zhodane... Is it good?)

The story was a bit weird, but it introduced the Zhodani.

Plot summary - The Travellers are looking for work on planet Udo in the Marches. Bad place to be unemployed - they like to drug your guys and lock you in tin boxes in space, mining rocks for them in payment for oxygen.

In the story, the Travellers are doing just that, in dire straits, when they encounter Rock drifting in the void. They find that it is a ship, and that it's just about run out of air and fuel. They refuel with an ice asteroid conveniently nearby.

And then they discover Newt from Aliens.

They eventually find that the kid's Dad, a Professor, was using Rock to roam about on the wrong side of the Zhodani border. They find the old guy alive, and discover that he is, in fact, Imperial Intelligence - and that he was using a memory cap to block off his true identity beneath the identity of the old Prof.

The Travellers have to go back across the border to get the girl's Dad back. But first, they have revenge to exact on their would-be slavers.

Pebble is Rock's compact ship's boat.

Expedition to Zhodane was the first "official" printed adventure that I ran for my group back in the day. Up to that point I was either doing my own thing or mixing and matching elements for various sources. This one I ran as printed and we had a blast.

Apart from having the twist that the "Professor" had been a double agent for the Zhodani all along, and ending up handing his daughter to him in person on some atmosphere 6 moon - not so much a prisoner exchange, more a successful conclusion to a rescue mission - I too ran the adventure, more or less, as written. Rock became the Travellers' home for the remainder of the campaign, and it was so well-loved by them that I bet they'll still dream of flying with Rock and Pebble to this day.

Having now read Marc's novel and swotted up on wafer tech in T5 I think it is time to give this adventure a bit of an update. MgT has all the rules needed to update it too :)

I would buy a "modernized" version of this adventure. I think it would be fun to revisit the past while finding out what new twists were added in.

Can someone do me a quick favour?

We have just posted the 2D versions of the High Guard deck plans here: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/rpgs/traveller-1/high-guard.html (scroll down).

Can someone make sure you can download them and read them properly?
I really appreciate the 2-d deckplans (I'm not fond of the 3-d ones, but the 2-d ones look awesome), but I don't see the Beowolf Free Trader, the 2nd Far Trader, or the Safari Ship listed among them, and there's also a ship equipped with a jump net that's just listed as "Jump Ship" in the 2-d deckplans, which doesn't appear in High Guard 2e. Will the 3 commercial ship deckplans be available soon as 2-d, and will we get stats for the "jump ship"?

Thanks!

I thought the Free Trader, Far Trader, and Safari Ship 2D plans were with the Core Rule Book.
