... So anyways, finding an ubundance of time on my hands today, I started photographing some of the ships ready for inclusion in the B5 gallery on the site once I get it finished.

There will be the usual full guides included on painting and tips etc that those who know me from 'other projects' will be familiar with. But I thought I would share afew sneak peeks just so you don't think I have forgotten y'all just because I've been MIA for so long.

Oh, I hid the links in the modelling & Painting forum bit, betcha can't find them?

Enjoy.

Oh BTW, Has LBH started assembling any of his fleets yet? Been away so long bit out of touch and am mildly curious.

Regards
Carl

Has the world ended?

Do you see a pale rider upon a pale horse outside your window?

No? Well then I have not painted any of my minis yet

Not as such, no. But I did think it rather chilly this morning so wondered if perhaps Hell had frozen over.

... Glad to hear it hasn't

Nice dude. I am always blown away.

I can't wait until I finish uni and have time to paint my EA and Vorlon fleets!

not to hidden but very cool none the less.

I really liked how you were able to create textures on flat surfaces. (especially with the centuri ships)

plobably some of the best painted ships I've seen

you have an obligation to show those off :D

I wish I could manage that level of awesomeness. I haven't started on my EA fleet yet, but I could only hope them to look half that good. 1/4 even!

Thanks guys :)

Thank you. Yes, this is something I tried with some of the league ships recently and decided to carry over to the Centauri when I did them. Its not as tricky as it sounds and is really just a cheap optical illusion. Adding a few extra lines and fake highlights on the large expanses of flat surfaces the ships have tricks the eye into seeing panels lines and detail there that there isn't.
Sorry this isn't a very good photo, but the Xill below is probably a good example of what I mean:
acta003.jpg

Rather than paint it a flat silver with highlights and washes for texture, I added a few extra fine lines between the panels in mithril following the shape of the saucer. I didn't try to be too exact and also added some trick washes and fake highlights within them. The overall effect was one more like the Xill you see in the picture from the rulebook.

I'll try to get a better photo of this for the site when I do the second Xill and maybe do more of an explanation at the time if thats the sort of thing people want to see.

Thanks :D
Carl

Next time you do some EA ships, I'd love to see some step by step to get a better idea of how you apply the layers and fake shading to get that effect. It looks so good. The centauri are spectacular! Its like you just cheated by using some magical powers to pull ships right off your screen and onto your gaming table.

Maybe I'm just over tired but I can't find them.

well this is supposed to be a secret so ..... shhh don't tell anyone

go to Painting and modeling tips

then What Have You Painted Today?? pg 28

they are all there

Ahh, I was under the misconception that they were on dropship site.
Ahh, no. My fault I should have been clearer.
Just to clarify so there is no misconceptions; the live dropship site (www.dropship.org.uk) is somewhat dated now having been online since 1998 and was primarily GW centric.

I have been working for a while on removing it alltogether and replacing it with a revised version which would not be purely GW. In fact it will be galleries and articles across my interests which include, but are not limited to:
40K, Epic, SST, ACTA, Battlefleet Gothic, Warmachine, Hordes and others.

However, to sort out what is worth keeping, rewritting and designing over 300 pages worth of articles and reshooting a 'lot' of photos is somewhat time consuming. Hence this is why I uploaded the pictures onto the site, but linked them from the forum as they are not embedded into articles yet. That I am afraid is a good way off yet.

When I have finished adding the ACTA section and the site is fit to be uploaded, I will let folks know here.

Hope that clears up the confusion.
Best regards
Carl

I did notice that as I was trawling it for ACTA stuff

Thanks for the clarification.
