Hi all, noob question here

Hi

I play with the thougt to start playing ACTA (actually im quite sure to start playing, since my girlfriend likes the ships as well PERFECT).

But now im kind of confused about which rulebooks i need and does it make sense to buy them at all, while a new edition is coming around the corner.

I hope you can help me with that :)

Cu

I wouldn't say "around the corner" is strictly accurate. There is a new version but it is quite a long way off (remember to add 6 months to any quoted release date!).

To be up-to-date with the current rules, you need the Revised Set, SFOS and Armageddon. Dilgar and Drakh books are only required if you want to play those races. Revised Set on its own is still playable on its own, and so is Revised Set+SFOS. But to be current you need Armageddon as well.

As Burger said :)

Revised is the core rules set

Sky Full of Stars is a major overhaul of all of the fleet lists and a few minor rules changes

Armageddon is an overhaul of three main races and adds a couple of rules tweaks too

Dilgar and Drakh have their own fleet books

As you may gather, Revised alone is well playable but limited in scope (many of the available ships weren't released at the time), SFoS is basically the current game with a few exceptions and Armageddon brings you right up to date. 2nd edition will likely be out well into the second half of this year with no firm release date as of yet. If you're interested at the moment, I'd suggest getting the Revised boxed set and playing the game to see how you like it. SFoS can be bought at this point or later but if you enjoy the game then it adds an awful lot to the experience. The other add-ons are only essential if you are playing against other people in other events (e.g. in shops, at conventions, etc.).

Hi again and thx for the advice.

So now i did read alot through the Forum and all and some more questions came to my mind :D...

I did read that the Psi Corps will be a playable fleet with the 2Ed. im very interested in that ^^ and would like to know if anybody could give me a hint which ships they use beside the Shadow Omega (which is an awesome Ship btw.).
Are the Vree alone a fleet worth playing yet or should i wait for more of them to come out ? And can i play them with the revised edition alone ?

For the Drakh i need only their fleet rules in addition to the revised rules right ? (My girlfriend wants to play those so it would be good to know).

What could i do with the ships of the Ancients ? I like the black one (looks like a flying wing) very much.

Thanks for your time :)

Should be alright, although rules for Breaching Pods and Troops (used for Boarding actions) are found in SFoS.

You could sit it in your lap and stroke it, Bond Villan style.... Or hold it in the palm of your hand while muttering "My Precious..."

Err... back to reality.... The Black Wing is called Dark Knife, stats for it (and all the other ships) can be found on the ship viewer hosters pages (look for posts by Burger, LBH and Obsidian and click on the relevant links). Dark Knife is an Ancient, and as such costs the same as two Armageddon level (next step up from War) choices. Full rules for all the Ancients can be found int he Armgeddon supplement.

Und wieder ein deutscher Spieler... :D

But back to the Ancients: You should know that they are not a fleet as such, so while you can play them in big games, they are more suited for special scenarios and stuff like that.

Tournament sounds good ^^.

About the Vree... are they playable or rather not. Sorry if that sounds dumb but id really like to play them from the looks of the ships, but also i dont like to lose before the battle even started cause my troops suck ^^.

And about the Psi Corps i guess nobody knows anything yet ?

Thanks for the info about the Ancients good to know that buying those ships makes not much sense for normal play.

@Silvereye
ROFL MY PRECIOUS...

Where are the rules for the new Vree Z'Takk Command Saucer ? In SfoS ?

if you want to play just the vree, you'll want to get SFoS. The vree selection in the revised set is very limited (the enteire league of non alined worlds is a single fleet in the box set so each race only gets one or two ships).

The sky full of stars vree are a viable stand alone fleet in my opinion. they do have their weeknesses, in that their ships aren't very sturdy, but they have excelent manuverability and 360 degree firing capabilities on all their weapons. they also have the best scout ships in the game, but no actuall carriers.

In sky full of stars the vree are basicly invulnerable to fighters, but in Armagedon they are easy prey to enemy fighters (as best i know).

depend on youre enemy. EA or other fighter heavy fleets have a hard time against youre ships If youre enemy is Narn with the energy mines you have to play on an field with mutch obstacles like asteroids and nebulas or he blow you out of the sky before you can do mutch. If you can flank the other Side youre in advantage. the most secundäry weapons of the Vree have a larger Rang then the other races.[/quote]

Hi again

So the Vree are rather relying on hit and run or outflanking the enemy. Thats actually a play stile i like 8) dont know if im able to, but i like the thougt of it.
Thanks so far, now im sure its going to be Vree as first fleet.

If im ever to combine the Vree with any other race of the League, which would be the best choice... a race with a carrier ? Or a race with some big ships to hold the centre of the battle line ?

Best Regards
Markus

Vree are very much as you describe and should suit you if that's your style :) SFoS is definitely needed to give them enough choice to make interesting. The Z'Takk may be found in Armageddon but if that's the only ship you need then as noted, the various shipviewers have the raw stats for it.

As for combining them with other League races - if you want to keep to your preferred style then Drazi may work for a solid core to the fleet that hit hard but are a bit less manoeuvrable or maybe Brakiri for some heavier firepower at high PLs to back up your fleet...there are many options.

Psi Corps ships that you already have access to will include the Shadow Omega as you mention, the Nemesis, Hunter, EA fighters and a couple of other bits, potentially in addition to a small proportion of EA allies. Of course, this is all still early days so is subject to change.

Hey thanks alot Triggy

Sounds pretty cool :) if you mean the "Shadow Hunter" by "Hunter" i hope it gets a new mini... ;)
Very good to know, so im quite sure that will be my second fleet then.
