help needed on a question about cover and firing

We were playing SST at the weekend, my other half (read better half :) ) was trying out her skinnies against my MI and bugs and we got a bit confused about how cover works, so I thought I'd ask some advice on this one.
Her skinnies were in a size 2 ruined building and wanted to fire out. No problem there as they had jumped in.
The way we think it works is if they can fire out we (MI M8) should be able to fire back, though with the skinnies will get a cover save bonus of +2.
We figured this as there is the rule of "if they can see and shoot you, you can see and shoot them."

The thing that is confusing us was the cover aspect that in theory the skinnies who are size 1 would not be visible in size 2 building.

Is this right, could they have shot and been shot at or what ?
thanks, slightly confused

Models can choose to "ignore" the terrain piece they are within - it is assumed that they will find gaps, windows or climb up a wall to shoot beyond it (OF COURSE use your brain here - it's clear you can't ignore a 15" high cliff that way).

Anyway it also states that Line of Sight works both ways - if you can see the enemy he can see you (although of course you get the +2 cover bonus).
That also means if the skinnies choose not to fire they can't be seen by the M8.

that is what we thought in the end as it made the most sense

The only problem we thought that this made was that if the skinnies had just jumped into the ruins and not yet fired, the MI wouldn't be able to see them to fire (which kind of leaves the MI sitting ducks :( )

That's right, you can jump into or beyond cover - that's what MI does all the time.
Otherwise CAP Troopers wouldn't have a chance against blaster bugs (as their weapon also ignores cover) or other MI.
That's SST - stay on the bounce or you're dead.

Good question since in SST:Evo you cannot jump into cover.

And that is why CAP Troopers will die in this game.
You get blastered in the open and if you dugg for cover you sit there and get overrun by Warriors and Tankers because you can't get away.
Even worse as you can't jump as reaction.

MI will completely suck in Cityfight (LAMI are too immobile and thus get outmanouvered, CAP Troopers too vulnerable, Exos too few in numbers and weak in firepower - the new Firestorm sucks big time).
Besides that with the new tunneling rules the bugs can place an ambush on almost any point of the map and wipe out the MI unit adjacent to that location almost entirely before taking damage.

Do remember that you can fire at any time during the jump (which can go up to 6" high methinks)
You could jump and in mid-air fire your guns and take cover afterwards.

That's what happens with hoppers, they fly by, chop off some heads and take cover behind some rocks.
You can't target them unless using indirect fire.
