Hee hee, Raiders...

"What does it say?"

"As far as I can tell, 'Do not press this button. We mean it.' That's it."

"What's it do?"

"I dunno - do you want to try it?"

It's not simply a case of (a) finding one but (b) crewing one and (c) - the big one - maintaining one. The IA had a hell of a time trying to rebuild and maintain the shadow war era White Stars; a bunch of raiders whose technical resources essentially consist of a junkyard and an acetylene welder haven't really got much of a prayer.

As to breaching pods, I agree. One of the nicest ships in the Argent's Crusaders list was the Assault Freighter - a big, bulked out, freighter filled with concealed breaching pods. It was a Carrier 8, raid-level ship with 8 breaching pods.

Mind you, I like quite a few suggested additions to the raider list; the blockade runner is a nice idea, and I love the idea of being able to replace one or two of an enemy's supply ships with modified freighters.

Strike carriers loaded with boarding pods are nasty. Jump out of hyperspace in the middle of an enemy fleet carrying those things and watch your opponent panic. :D

I have never seen a Minbari part of a raiding party and would be considered "Soul Sick" unless he/she is under cover as part of an IA sting operation

A fiendish plan, but sadly you're waiting too long to get them on the field - turn 1 open point
turn 2 jump in but can't launch
turn 3 launch at end of turn
turn 4 you can finally send in the pods. Except that (since the strike carrier only has 3 troops) you can't launch a full load.

The problem is that things tend to be already decided by this point....
Pah! Bring back the assault freighter!

Assault freighter, blockade runner and fire-ship would make raiders a much more competitive fleet...

Just a few things you put wrong there firstly it can swap the Delta-Vs for pods without using it's troop allocation. So thats 4 pods. It's a fleet carrier so it can start with 2 of those already deployed in hyperspace so.

Turn 2 jump in 2 pods can move freely as long as a scout is present.
Turn 3 launch / replace destroyed pods on a 5/6+
Turn 4 repeat

Should you run out of pods you can then filter the troops into the pods.

Also nothing to stop him buyin a few patrol points worth of pods and having them sit in hyperspace and just come stright in.

If I was a raider, and I happened apon a whitestar that had been decrewed I'd just cut the weapons out and leave the rest. Why muck about with a ship that you can't make go, and can't maintain. Why not just grab those lovely neutron lasers and split. Being raiders you would expect them to be good at ripping what they need off ships quickly, and once they were somewhere safe they would have plenty of time to work out how to attach it to there own vessel.

And the ranger's boots. and maybe the jump engine as well.

Whatever floats your starship.....

And it wouldn't just be the stuff they could use that they would be stealing. There is also the hightech stuff that they could sell.

You'd think the Raiders would have more White Stars in their fleets. The ship's crew have all been picked off one by one, but the ship repairs itself. So a bunch of raiders stumble upon some White Star that's in perfect condition, but without a crew.

"Whoooooooooo!" one of them would scream, pushing random button/crystal things.

"Ooooooh..." another would gasp in awe as the ship creates a jump point.

I think it'd be more like:
"Now, look, when you get over there, don't Touch anything."
"Right, Boss."
"Whoooooooooo!" one of them would scream, pushing random button/crystal things.
BOOM
"And that's why we only send the expendable crew as boarding parties..."

Two possible problems I see...

1. Such a vessel would draw way to much attention to the Raider group (not something you want generally) and they would be hunted down mercilessly. I seem to remember a B5wars campaign where a raider group were trying to escape with a set of derelict Hyperions whilst the EA hunted them down...

2. "Decrewing" is likely a very rare event in 'reality', it was never show to occur even to a White Star in the series, the only cases where it may have occurred the ship was far too trashed to be of use in itself to a Raider group (and I guess there's a cut off point where by the WS is effectively dead and can't regenerate anymore).
