Has this happened to you? How did you solve the problem?

Unlike a large numer of other RPG where the central theme is kill, loot and get drunk afterwards Bab 5 rpg is centered more on investigation and drama (or at least that is he way I have structured it/much like the Bab 5 TV series).

The problem is that the players in my area want the hack and slash of the D&D format and not quite so keen on the thinking persons game.

How did yall overcome this lust for blood, or did ya???? ;)

Some players aren't meant for some genres. I'd assume that only people into B5 would really be into a campaign of it. And, people into B5 would not think of playing it like D&D, but one never knows.

That being said, can always shock people to see if it will remind them that they aren't playing a videogame. Call of Cthulhu always had "well, now you are insane/dead/monsterized, roll up a new character" to differentiate itself from the typical FRPG. And, so forth.

Unfortunately, sometimes you really don't want to play hack and slash and the only players you got only want to do that. Solutions for that are more along the lines of finding people online to play electronically with, or whatever. If it's a more diverse local group rather than an entire group of nothing but H&Sers, can try to exclude those who can't handle alternate play styles and look to recruit some other players as needed.

I had the players go off on a little jaunt for New Technolgies Division (under the guise of an IPX Contract).

The only one to survive was the Narn Soldier.

Everyone else died horribly.

Well I say everyone.

The blip may have wound up as nueral battery for some ancient device, but we never confirmed it.

Just make sure your players are more than aware of the lethality of the system.

Or see if they want a GROPOS campaign.
