Has anyone played this

I have played Victory at Sea solo. It flows pretty well. And since no actions are considered simultaneous it works fairly well.

I have played the "Battle of the Denmark Straight", "Air Action Bismarck", "Night Destoyer Action Bismarck", and the "HMS Rodney and King George V versus the Bismarck" all as a mini-campaign.

"Battle of the River Plate" Also makes for an excellent solo game, since it is a 3 - 1 ration scenario.

I have also played a Coral Sea/Midway type US Carrier air group strike against a Japanese carrier task force. Landed some good hits but was unable to sink any of the carriers.

Hello.
I'm using the new playtest version solo, as well as with my 11-year-old grandson. It works VERY well in solitaire, and allows playtest for play balance and the like.

I was curious about the "plummeting shells", though. It would seem that the physics of shells in flight would give plummeting shells at long and extreme ranges, as opposed to a flat 20". Is this a simplicity calculation?

Often ...

I use a chit pull system. I have made a token for each ship (actually a plastic ludo counter - one colour for Axis and one colour for allied with a number inked on for each ship. The numbers replicate those on the ship data cards I use to play)

For the movement phase simply pull out the tokens and move the ships. Put them all back in the bag and draw them out for the Firing phase and get the order each ship fires.

This way each side can plan but the chaos of the draw means you never know if your plan will follow through in the actual movement and exchange of fire.

Works well and is actually quite exciting

This system normally works for most miniature games.

I'm really enjoying a solo 'Silent Service' campaign; I converted the USN's S-class and Porpoise-class submarines into the game and am now playing an early-WWII Asiatic Fleet game. I'll try and refine things a bit in order to make it something useful to others- including getting the Tambor and Salmon/Sargo classes in (they will be identical in-game). The Tench and Balao are so similar to the Gato that they can be considered identical in-game, so no real need to add them.

I did 'correct' the Gato class a bit though- all other subs in the game seem to have a "1 AD per 2 tubes" standard; this means that the Gato is shortchanged by assigning only 1 AD of torps to her stern tubes. In my version she has 3AD fore/2AD aft, and all subs being added follow this standard.

I would say it was a mistake because it is 3/2 you are right on tubes .
it is one AD per every two tubes.
on the other subs there are some small differences in them.
hit me with what you have done so far and Ill check the stats and help with the others.

The biggest thing is I have to remember to use the VAS 1.0 formulas because they change in version 2.0. I think its much more accurate.

You mean I have to figure all this stuff out again to be able to put missing and my personal alternate history ships into VaS2.0?
 The Horror!!!

Seriously, if it's more accurate, then it's a good thing- as long as it's not too hard to reverse engineer.

Yes Version 1.0 of VAS uses different formulas from version 2.0 the new WWII rules

WWII VAS 1.0 or WWI VAS vs new version VAS 2.0? I wish they had different titles its confusing. Make note of this before your comments if there is any question on which, thats what I try to do since the new VAS 2.0 is just WWII.

Except your alternate history ships there should not be much missing since example; the WWII Italian list is for 79 classes including subs, not counting MTBs and other small vessels.

WW1 VAS is AOD. Simples :)

Ok guys remember to use AOD for WWI VAS, DM has spoken. :D
for WWII use 1.0 or 2.0 for VAS the reason I mention this is, I think some people are confusing them in the forums.
