has any one use the isle of dread in a conan campign

It would work.

You would want to remove most of the "D&D" monsters, such as the intelligent cat-things. The intelligent spiders would simply become giant spiders, etc.

The Kopru might be okay. I would make them more like Deep Ones, from Lovecraft. An "innocent" village of simple primitives worshipping strange gods...

i think it would to you could keep the ogres as a nothe sub human race dump the dragon but what of the lizard men and giants to do we get rid of them to

The ogres are essentially stronger meaner humans. Going with the Conan theme they would have to be either ape-men (ala Thak in "Rogues in the House") or grey apes (ala "Iron Shadows of the Moon").

The lizard men could easily be Alligator Pict style natives. Giants would have to be ape-men or Grey apes.

It's been a while since I read the IoD. There are dragons described in the Scrolls of Skelos although they are magical constructs, IIRC. If you did include a dragon, there would have to be an ancient, mummified Atlantean priest controlling it.

Oooooooooooooooooh........

The Isle of Dread is actually a fragment of long lost Atlantis that survived the Cataclysm and never sank.

Damn. I'm just plain good...

In which case those ape-men might be really degenerate ancestors of the Atlanteans. IOW, long-distance cousins to todays Cimmerians, but an evolutionary line that never managed to "drag themselves out of apedom".

If you think about it this could be sort of like "Red Nails" mixed with "Queen of the Black River" mixed with "The Pool of the Black Ones" (which are all among my favourite stories btw)
