We have just posted the front cover of Hammers Slammers on our site - the art itself is complete, the two logos are draft.

Very nice!

I still would like to see Mr. Drake's Republic of Cinnabar setting adapted to Traveller as well; as I found the Slammers series more difficult to get into, doing the RCN series would appeal more to me.

Yeah, nice cover for one of my favorite book series.

I was reading the Thread title and was wonder what hot, new 'Cover up' the Hammer Slammers was involved with this time.

LOL

gonna grab a copy of this aswell once its out. of course i also have to find the omnibus collections for the books aswell at some point, but hey i trust the goose to do a good enough job that i'll be able to glean a reasonable amount of info from the book to run some kinda game from it.

Brilliant
I'm looking forward to this one
My only concern is the price - £30?!?!

I know its a hardback (and I do love hardbacks)
but £30 is a lot of cash for me right now
but still I will do my best to get the budget workng so that I cna buy
a copy, my last campaign was basically a "Slammers" style game
(Mercenary tank unit) and we had fun, so Im looking forward to seeing
what you guys have come up with 8)

Interesting to see that the blower APC on the cover is based on the resin ones from Old Crow. Though as it was designed with input from the author it is about as accurate as one can get.

I think the Republic of Cinnabar books are a nice idea as well. It is basically the age of sail in space (literally given the way the FTL drive works) with the political system from the Roman republic.

His three Reaches books are great source material as well. Probably best suited to the way players work as well. The books are based on the English expeditions against the Spanish colonies, trade and eventually the invincible armada. I think in the introduction to one he mentions that the real voyagers often took off without a good plan, or even any sort of plan beyond 'beat up the Spanish and take their gold' and even when they did have a plan the wheels generally came off them very quickly. Sounds like player characters to me!

The latter two series could be done quite easily. Pick a rule set, knock up a few stats and away you go. In fact many years ago I think I did try using the Reaches setting, slightly tweaked, with Alternity .

What is an obvious difference in the latter settings is the importance of religion which is very different to plain vanilla Traveller.

I dunno. The way FTL and combat work in Cinnabar is not at all a good fit with the Traveller system. I don't see any way to just plug in a few optional rules, you'd basically have to scrap the whole ship design and combat sections and start over again.

Maybe something like this is needed!

I should mention that I got an older copy of The Tank Lords (mine having a different title), and only got halfway through before losing interest. That said, I hope that fans of HS enjoy the Traveller adaptation.

Interesting... I had just the opposite reaction.

I downloaded The Tank Lords from the free Baen Book website and LOVED IT. I initially had no interest in Hammer's Slammers, but having read the books, I will probably pick up the PDF when it comes out.

The book sold me on the setting.
