GW price hikes leave a place in the market?

Mongoose
Seems to me that - one failed forray into the market not withstanding - the time is right for Mongoose to launch a fantasy miniatures games. There are a lot of GW fans out there who seem pretty ticked-off with the so-far-above-inflation-it-isn't-funny price increases that are being imposed.

Mongoose has a track-record for producing good rules for miniatures-games. Plus, any minis produced might be suitable for use with the 'new' Wayfarer system. Some might be themed around the various IPs - Deus Vult, The Age of treason, Elric, and so forth.

Why not give it a go?

They are certainly levaing a gap in my Dark Angels army, and the dream to complete several companies is beginning to sail out of the window.

I hate to say anything against GW, because I love what they do (I used to write for them - check out the Flesh Tearers, among others, pretty cool if I say so myself :)).

However, their current strategy does seem 'interesting' and it certainly creates a bit more wiggle room for other manufacturers in their pricing (some models on the market _are_ way too cheap).

I don't believe there will be a Wayfarer minis game, but a Deus Vult one or one base don other settings is possible (but not thus far planned - we have three minis games in development right now, and just getting them ready is quite a task!).

Dark Angels, eh, Matthew? A tasty snack for my orks, I reckon

You keep dropping tantalising hints about Mongose's plans for the minis market. I would love to see the company expanding in that direction once more. The new Call to Arms has some nice models and very solid rules; and the Judge Dredd minis are a step-up in quality.

I LOVE the idea of something Deus Vult themed. Recreating battles for the Holy Land, with saracens and the various crusader legions would be cool. Throw in supernatural elements and it could be a winner. I'm already having a 'JD from Scrubs' moment, imagining a force of hieromonks competing with the Knights Templar to get their hands on a sacred artefact guarded by sorcerous minions! :)

Its actually wht got me over here into mongoose. Why continue to pay huge prices for a hobby when i can substitute.

Dont get me wrong the price per model is still similar.... kinda. But the necessities are less, And the rules (though still changing) are really rather simple. I wish I would have found this BEFORE I got my kids into 40k. Oh well I can just sell of a bunch.

Orks would make good mutants or underhivers right, and space marines high-tech robots or aliens?

Though if you scroll downwards, you will see I am by no means a stranger to Orks :)

Any idea what sort of price Deus Vault models might come in at?

Just to make things clear, we are not even thinking about DV models at this time - we have plenty of other games being worked on right now (one of which we will be announcing very soon). However, they are a possibility for the future.

Hmm...have to admit those damn terminators have caused my boys in green a few problems in the past. And a company of landraiders is just plain obscene!
