Getting Slaine

I'm reasonably keen to pursue RQ Slaine as our group's game of choice, or at least equal choice with Conan, but Mongoose's history with this line is less than impressive. I missed d20 Slaine, which is a pity because the bits of it I've seen looked very good, but it seemed to come and go within only a few years (2002 to 2004?) and maybe a dozen releases. RQ Slaine has a solitatry release, some SaP stuff and the promise (but a Mongoose promise) of "The Baileoisin Chronicles". What happened with d20 Slaine, and is it likely to happen again with RQ Slaine? And is the new relationship with Rebellion going to precipitate a new direction for 2000AD products, Slaine in particular?

Slaine will never be a popular line. As such, I wouldn't bank on more official support. Even the new MRQ books are being written in someone's spare time without remuneration.

On saying that the books released so far are very good. If you have MRQ Slaine, then you have most of the d20 material. The only thing I would look to get is the 4 Horned God and Moon Sow adventures as I think they are a fantastic campaign.

Maybe if Slaine d20's fantastic-ness was more widely known, the line would be better supported.

If Slaine sold better, we would have got more support. However, I doubt whether making it more widely known would have been enough. D20 Slaine is probably one of the best d20 RPGs that was IMO (though several OGL games beat it). MRQ Slaine is pretty good too and covers 90% of the setting material published for d20.

However, the setting is very specific and it doesn't have the widest appeal. Also, I personally don't think that Mongoose didn't give it the visual quality that it needed (though to Mongoose's credit, this would have been very risky venture).

Then again the material that came out for D20 and MRQ has been pretty comprehensive. There were other d20 supplements mentioned but the game doesn't really need them IMO.

Ronzo the Grim( a fairly infrequent poster) is still running a Slaine Campaign in D20 which proceeded beyond the events of the Horned God and Moon Sow campaign.
We have just recently taken a sabbatical from our new MRQ Slaine campaign due to the birth of my new baby daughter. We hope to start it up again soon.
I believe that if good new material was made available that many players(like Toothill man) would return.

Anyway I don't think Slaine under d20 rules was the best solution. MRQ is great but they should give it its chance.
Indeed it would be a great thing if Toothill man would add his voice to ours.

I don't know. The last time I had news from him, he was very busy but it was already long ago.
He was probably the greatest (or one of them) contributor to the Slaine forum.

I would say he WAS/IS the greatest contributor to the Slaine forum and I wished I could have continued in the Slaine message board game as it was probably the best Slaine game I have ever played in ever!

I have all the D20 Slaine books as well as the RQ version and honestly I will and would play either depending on my players choice. But personally I really enjoy the RQ version more so as I find there to be more room to really spread your wings and given how deadly RQ is in general befits the world of Slaine more so.
