Gaim

cool. hmmm, what do we know of the Gaim?
they were not space faring until the Narn attacked them (whom they horribly battered) so if they beat Narn, they must be good in combat, so lots of troops? breaching pods? but being one of the newest races to space, they should probably be a a bit technologically inferior in that aspect, so maybe primative guns with lots of dice, few jump capeable ships, hmm, my mind keeps slipping to starship troopers bugs!
of course this is mere speculation and postulation. I'll probably find out I am totally wrong now!

If it's any guide, their weaponry in B5W was based off the Packet Torpedo, a high-cycle ballistic weapon that actually had range penalties (unusual for ballistic weapons in Babylon 5 Wars), and the Particle Concentrator, a high-cycle particle weapon that could be fired in conjunction with other Particle Concentrators across the fleet to extend range/accuracy with small costs in yield as one narrow salvo throughout the fleet. Also mounted moderate quantities of Scatterguns from the Markab, short range point defense weaponry that had variable fire rates per turn (it'd be like rolling for how many attack dice you get on a given turn.)

Aside from the strange weapons above, it in general had substandard total firepower, ship armor, and ship durability. We rarely played them whenever we hauled out B5W, although I really was interested in the Scattergun.

Also had "bulkhead" systems that could be applied as needed to damage to preserve critical systems before being destroyed. If we did this in a ACtA sense, it'd be like each ship having a power it could use, once per battle, to negate a critical immediately after it has been rolled and determined which crit it is.

The medium Koist and light Reska fightercraft are merely average, reminding me strongly of Goriths and Delta-Vs (the Koist, IIRC, is a modified Delta-V itself), respectively.

All this is from B5Wars days, of course. That doesn't guarantee anything.

Redundancy 1 (selective variant), then? ;)

Sounds very similar at least :)

All the background that I've read about the Gaim sort of point to the fact that they have some of the nastiest assult troups in the galaxy. Take what happened to the narn, and if you read the LONAW roleplay book, the Dilgar, as an example. It would be cool if this was reflected in ACTA somehow. Maybe something like a +1 or 2 on their dice rolls when they are involved in boarding actions, or planetary assults. This would make gaim breaching pods scary. This might be a bit out there, but I'd imagine a race that was a bit behind the others wanting to play to the strenghts they had.

What i found intriguing in the Fluff is that the Gaim breed for whatever environment they find.
For example, the Gain Ambassador on B5, they developed a humanoid variant of there species to fit the task of being on B5. :D
So i be they could breed some really terrifying soldiers or shp crew.

Just to give you a few hints, but not give too much away:

The Gaim fleet in 2e does indeed have scary assault troops. It is commanded by Queens that have a definite effect on the other crews in the fleet. Their drones are expendable.

Well last mentioned on these boards, the intent is to have 2e ready for the open day on 4th August, with general release 20th August.
