Gaim in the Game

Da Boss

Mongoose
Hi all - just playing with stuff and was contemplating this - is it completely unfair / too restrictive on the Gaim?

thanks :)

Queen Ships: Queens do not enter battle lightly and there must be a pressing reason for their lives to be risked. A Gaim fleet may only deploy upto 1 fleet allocation point of Queen Ships per priority level of the scenario –so at
Patrol level they may have 1,
Skirmish – 2,
Raid – 3,
Battle – 4,
War –5
and Armageddon - 6.

note I also have a war level High Queen ship in the works......................

Only thing I would question is it seems like you've got a geometric expansion of the Queens rather then a limitation. If Burger's Armageddon-1 tournaments ever get green lighted then your plan would have no impact.

would mean you always see skirmish queens as you cant afford to lose all your queens. i prefer the 1st idea if there was to be any limit.

I guess it depends on how the gaim's society actually works.

The fluf in the fleet book seems to inply that there should only be a handfull of queen ships in any given fleet, but the rules themselves debunk this as there are more classes of queen ships than non-queen ships. (admitedly it's a tie if you don't count fighters and breeching pods)

Thus my explenation would be that queens are actually farily common but difficult (or time consuming) to replace. Thus the non-queen ships are classes that are viewed as expendable and the only reason they don't carry a queen of their own is it has been deemed that the benefit of the queens presence would be less than the cost should the ship be destryed accounting for the likelyhood of such an occurance. it's the same reasoning that you wouldn't put a colonel in command of every given tank in an armor unit, because of the time needed to train a replacment, and the frequencey with which tanks can be expected not to return from an engagment.

personally i think there should be fewer classes of queen ships, one battle level and one skermish level should be enough, the raid level should be replaced with another standard warship, perhaps something with the escort trait (the Gaim's owh capital ships wouldn't benefit much from this, but it's be usefull in combined league fleets, and would help grately if used to support your fighter swarms). it would also be nice if there were a war or battle priority ship without the queen trait.

I'd agree, but it gets touchy with the levels of the Queens. At skirmish and battle there isn't a whole lot of real difference between the current set up and that one. But if you move to raid & battle then you risk the low Patrol-4 or less being very disadvantagous for the Gaim. I would anticipate that it depends entirely on the power scaling you want to achive for the Gaim.

I think the bigest thing is the ratio of queen classes to non-queen classes. I chose the skermish and battle levels to stay because that allows them to always field a queen, but reduces the number of queen options. sure an all queens fleet is still possable, but that's going to be unavoidable. at least this way there's a good reason to use only one or 2 as the mid sized ships which will fill out most fleets are all non-queen classes.

I've never used more than 50% of my ships as queen ships. It's not a rule, it's just a balanced fleet

since in VP-Scenarios the Queens give double victory points,
i would not take too much queen ships in. It is a restriction
that is already in the rules.

Your chart seems only to restrict the number of ships in small
scale battles then, mostly patrol as mentioned above.
In Batte, War and Armageddon i won't take more ships than
your numbers for the reason of double VPs.

So in conclusion your suggested rule would be a good idea if
the rule for queens would not already be in the rules.
