So, the winner was Tenacious B with his Shadow fleet, and Emperorpenguin came second with his Centauri. Some fun games were had all around, I've a few crappy photos I'll post later on, but I'm going clubbing!
Thanks for a great day Lorcan
cheers to everyone else too
Will give you my address Lorcan so I can get my runners-up prize of a year's supply of jolt cola......
I guess I'll start the ball rolling on the report side. My fleet consisted of a Primus, Sulust, Centurion and Altarian. I played against The Pirv's Drakh (Heavy cruiser and 3 Light Cruisers) in my first game and won a close victory. I destroyed his heavy cruiser in turn one but then made the mistake of not concentrating fire while trying to chase the pesky agile Drakh! All credit to The Pirv for putting up such a fight, in the end he had one light cruiser hiding behind a planet from my remaining 2 ships, one of which was crippled!
Game 2 saw me taking on my brother's Brakiri fleet, my most regular opponent! He had an Avioki, Halik and 4 Ikortas. I concentrated on killing two ikortas first to even the odds before going for the Halik which was spitting fire everywhere! Then after a volley of fire from the Avioki incinerated my centurion I went after that beast, inflicting THREE no weapons crits in one turn of shooting! At this point the Avioki jumped into hyperspace with me unable to inflict the necessary hits on the 64 damage monster to prevent its escape. The Ikorta fled off the board, resulting in a major victory for me.
Game 3 I was against Burger's Minbari (Tinashi, 2 Tigaras and Leshath)and having never beaten Minbari in a competitive game I didn't fancy my chances. My plan was to use my superior long range fire to draw his close fighting Tigaras forward out of +1 stealth range. The bait worked and the Tinashi closed a little too fast so with a lucky stealth roll I hit it with a volley of Primus fire and followed this up by taking advantage of his nials attacking the rear of my centurion to send in my fighters to use "Scanners to Full!". The Tinashi went boom, followed quickly by both Tigaras, the Altarian proved great at getting between the Minbari and firing everywhere. In the end the Centurion was crippled but I'd not lost a ship though his nials escaped in order to save him from a "fleet annihilated".
Overall the Primus was as ever the star of the show. After one turn of amazing battle laser fire Lorcan said to me "..and you want them to drop Centauri lasers! Are you mad!?"
The Sulust was great, I can only say that at 4AD this ship is overkill. The Centurion drew a lot of fire, especially from those mistaking it for a Prefect! The Altarian turned out to be a surprise, doing much better than I thought, though I'm sure largely due to opponents not targetting it because of hull 6 and no battle lasers.
Unfortunately now I can't make it to the "Battle of the Line" game on Monday because my girlfriend is working tomorrow, so we're going out on monday instead.
