Free RQ at DrivethruRPG

Rurik

Mongoose
First off for those who don't know, drivethrurpg.com is giving away a bunch of free stuff every day this week, and the RQ core rulebook is free today (and only today, Tuesday, Nov. 13).

Thanks Mongoose for giving it away, hopefully it will lead to more players out there.

Now for the whine...

It is as the first printing, old combat tables and examples and all. Personally I think it would have been well worth the effort to update the pdf with the official rules before giving it away free.

Agreed.

Kudos for giving it away :D
But acknolwedged* errors being in 'free' version
1. Might lose that chance at broadening player base :(
2. Might be construed (fairly or no) as a marketing tool to get everyone to buy deluxe. :?

Grrrr

*acknowledged by Mong. As opposed to the ones that everyone (or 'everyone') knows are errors.

I already had the PDF as I bought it when there was a Buy one get one free offer with the companion.

I also recently won a RQ core book off eBay for 99p, so I might stick with the non-deluxe rules for now as I am not particularly happy with the Deluxe/Player's Update rules either.

If an when Deluxe comes out in PDF format will I likely buy a hardcopy Deluxe and then only when I have read the PDF.

So I say that this freebie is a good incentive to get people into the game, just like the BOGO offer was for me.

I already own both the original and the deluxe book but went and downloaded the pdf also. Its going to be nice to be able to printout out a page or two(Such as cost of equipment and weapons) when I want to so I thank both RPGNow and Mongoose for putting this free on the net.

I just downloaded RQ from DriveThruRPG and I'm digging it so far.

Does the RQ Players Update (pdf) include all the updates that are missing from the PDF version of the rules I download? Is there another errata my quick search missed?

Thanks,

Welcome to the board Victor.

The Players update is the only erratta.

Be sure to check out the Wiki for ideas and houserules if interested. (there is a sticky at the top of the forum).

Enjoy the game. It has got to be the best value given away so far on drivethru.

Thanks for the welcome! RuneQuest 2nd Ed was my introduction to RPGs, so this is kind of like getting back to my roots.

Also, thanks for the nod towards the wiki. I have a couple ideas for some house rules of my own. It will be good to see what other people have done.

Looks like HeroQuest will be available for free tomorrow.

It is just the Heroes book - an intro to HQ. It has the basic mechanics, chargen, an overview of theist magic, and sections on Heortling and Lunar culture. Decent sized (50 or so pages I think) and a thorough introduction as I recall, but not the full game.
