Yes, we have a very interesting mix so far. I can't wait to see what the other people roll up. Skills sould not be much of a problem. Each person can have up to 2 connection skills to help round things out. Plus there are the skill packages, with 8 common level 1 skills to share out. The group will need to pick a package, once we settle on what ship to get and that should give us the rest of the basic skills needed.

Allso you can edit your own posts, there is a button in the upper right corner of each one. No need to repost whole things.

[[thank you I have found that and removed the first set of stats and amended the second]]

Cosmia . . . the unfortunate???

Bah! After all the unlucky rolls I had for Evan, I don't want to hear about it.

In the meantime, I'm writing up a background story for Evan but sure am having a hard time creating a connection with someone. Oh well. I guess it can't always happen, right?

And I agree. This sure is an interesting group we have here. :)

Well Rebecca Nova seems to pick up Allies and Contacts, everwhere she goes? Could your first term life event show that you two are old friends?
There are also a few people who still need to post their charaters, wait and see if something else strikes you as interesting?

Hmmm. My first term event does have an "Improved Relationship" occurring. The event table further describes it as a romantic relationship possibly leading to marriage or an emotional commitment. This would appear to have occurred during Rebecca's 2nd term wherein she received an Ally in the corporate world.

If M. Lydius is open to something like this then so am I.

Perhaps Evan is a psychopathic stalker. All those contacts Rebecca received in her last tour were really Evan in disguise.

And, of course, I can wait for some more players.

This is what I see for Rebeca Nova:

The Mentor relationship she had was very similar to the type that young female gymnasts have with thier trainers, when it works in a positive sense.

I just realized that the book states that Citizens have to have an EDU of 10 to roll on the advanced ed table, I thought it was the normal 8, so I had rolled "Art" mistakenly. but I think it works for the character. she got a taste of playing the Sa Hyanx and got hooked on it. Enough to quit her job and go play on the street! (that's where all the Streetwise comes from)

That is where the Mentor comes in. Out of all the people that though she had lost her mind, he was the only one that recognized the drive and raw talent, and encouraged her to cultivate it. There was no physical thing going on, as the Man was much, much older, and it was not that sort of thing.

The Mentor not only taught her to master the Sa Hyanx, but also to survive the Music Industry (which one must assume is filled with scam artists and exploiters, like any money making enterprise) and also maintain her integrity and values in that climate. Some have said he was "Protective" of her to an extreme.

So with the Mentor's death, Rebeca is at a Crossroads. She has taken a major personal loss, a major career loss, (Mentor was also Management, basically.) and now needs to plan her next move in her career. she also needs to write and record her next album, hopefully the one that will break her out into multi-sector fame.

Though she has been hosted by some very high levels of Society, she has never been comfortable with it. Certainly not as much as being with normal people. Rebeca is very down to earth and genuine in her ways, and makes freinds easy, and with all kinds of people from all social standings. she is in it more for the performing and bringing the Sector some enjoyment than being mega rich and forgetting where she comes from.

The "Tramp Steamer" method is a perfect way for her to write her new record, and do on the spot shows for people with word of mouth promotion. The sort of shows that people will say "I saw Rebeca Nova play down at the park yesterday out of nowhere!". It is certainly no compromise in dignity. It is an adventure.

In game terms: Nova has stopped right before her fifth entertainer term and being "Famous". This next four years will define the direction of the next leg of her career. I left my Allies and Contacts open for this reason, so the GM can make appropriate choices or suggestions. Since Rebeca more or less lived on the streets for her early career, meeting anyone as a Contact (like Cosima) would be totally acceptable and encouraged.

But be "warned". Rebeca is "Neutral Good". She has a niceness, a purity about her that is part of her image and popularity. Many sources have said it is no act. She is tolerant of all kinds of people, but is not used to the extremely violent, or "evil". But her being good doens't mean she is stupid, or doesn't know where to dig in the underworld, etc.

I also didn't do the aging crisis. I would like the GM to do that.

For Terran equivalents for this character, I am looking at:

The Beatles going to India after Brian Epstien died. (except not as part of a scam)

Woody Guthrie touring rural America during the great depression/Dust Bowl.

Cool stuff guys and gals

Right now I'm working up some more ship stats, as requested a couple of converted scouts, and some lux yachts. I should have them ready by Monday at the latest.

I've also contacted the admins and am trying to get the game its own forum so we can easily divide things into separate threads and keep things more organized. No reply yet but here's hoping.

Well, with that backround and outlook for Rebeca Nova. It would be best to go with a smaller, low overhead ship then. Spend more time on the ground in various systems. Maybe find a celebrity chef to come along to record a syndicated traveling cooking show ( thus spliting the cost and use of the HoloVid equipment Rebeca will need anyhow )?

A cheep converted scout with 5-6 staterooms and just enough cargo space for a mail drum and a few tons of cargo.
A used Safari ship, striped of it's launch and capture tanks, to give it some cargo space and the trophy room set up as a muti-use recording studio .
Some other jump-2 ship, a far trader or a Streamlined jump-2 Yacht, that has had it's ATV and ships's boat removed ....

Notice how the Scout has a thing for streamlined Jump-2 ships

Cosima
is quite happy to take Nova as a Contact, maybe I acted as Free Medical support at one of your Gigs, for a few weeks when we were in the same area.

If so I will take Medic as the bonus skill, thus making me Medic 2.

Just a quick idea. Have you concidered possibility of using some other media atleast for some of the campaign. I could see atleast combats/character creations(though this seems to be pretty much done already?) benefitting if you could agree to be online on certain time. Vassal for example could be used easily(it has chat, it has dice rolling. What else is needed? Technicly if someone would be willing to make effort you could even use "miniatures" in it but that would take some effort).

Just a wild idea. Someone(GM?) could then post what happened here.

Though time zones could be problematic + work etc. Anyway keep up posting. I rather enjoy reading this thread.

Rebecca's 1st term as a performer occurs during Evan's 2nd term as a thief. Both of them would most likely be out and about in the streets at that time. Is it possible that Rebecca was on Evan's home planet during that time?

I would like to boost Evan's Gun Combat skill to 1 if at all possible. The way things are shaping up, the only immediate role I can see Evan playing on a Scout ship at this time is some kind of security position. Lacking a respectable Gun Combat skill seems kind of awkward. Perhaps I helped Rebecca escape a bunch of thugs on the street which set Evan down the road to improving his gun skills?

Well you or someone else could use both of your connection skill picks to get, Trade ( Chef ) 2. Then play up some sort of traveling cooking show, maybe with guest chef's? Highlight whatever is interesting at each world we stop at? Sell the rough edited footage to an entertainment syndicat for 10,000cr - 30,000cr a show?

Ok, here is my pass at a character; let me know if I did anything wrong.

Rolls: 11,7,9,11,7,5
Sort: 7B7B95

Starting Skills (4): Streetwise 0 Carouse 0 Zero-G 0 Medic 0

The product of a mixed Sylean/Solomani family, Artemsus ("Art") was raised in the Wannam Belt (Antares 2012), a system jointly owned and exploited by several nearby systems. With the small scattered population, Art learned to get around in Zero-G, handle first aid in the event of an industrial accident, and how to "schmooze" and find connections among the habitats.

Term 1: Try for Navy, roll 9+1 (pass), join Line/Crew
Survival roll 7+1 (pass) Commission 9-1 (pass) - Rank 1
Intro Skills - Comms 0 Mechanic 0 Gun Combat 0 Sensors 0 Melee 0 Vacc Suit 0
Rank Skill- Melee(Blade) 1
Base Skill - Service Skills 6 - Gun Combat (slug pistol) 1
Advancement Skill - Advanced Education 5 - Navigation 1
Events 3 - Gambling Ring - Gain Gambler 1, don't try for extra benefits

Looking for a way out of the system, Art signed on with the Navy. Growing up in small habitats, he took quickly to Naval life, particularly the social and political culture. He often gained more from his time at the card table than he did his time on duty. Catching the attention of senior officers, and testing well, he gained his commission early.

Term 2: Survival roll 9+1 (pass) Advancement 8+1 (pass) - Rank 2
Rank Skill - Leadership 1
Base Skill - Personal Development 1 - +1 Str
Advancement Skill - Advanced Education 3 - Engineer (M-Drive) 1
Events 10 - Opportunity - take it for extra Benefit roll

Continuing to rise through the ranks, Art spent time in Engineering during his second term. Time spent on a high-G world helped to increase his Strength. Again, he found success in the Naval social community, helping to cover up a friend's gambling ring in return for a cut of the action.

Term 3: Survival roll 5+1 (pass) Advancement 7+1 (pass) - Rank 3
Base Skill - Officer Skills 5 - Admin 1
Advancement Skill - Officer Skills 3 - Pilot (spacecraft) 1
Events 3 - Gambling Ring (2nd time) - Deception 1 - don't try for benefits

In his third term, Art rose to Lieutenant, and learned administrative and piloting skills. Again, his off time was spent making connections at the card table. While benefiting from his off-duty exploits, Art was still becoming a capable officer.

Term 4: Survival roll 8+1 (pass) Advancement 12+1 (pass) - Rank 4
Rank Skill - Tactics (naval) 1
Base Skill - Advanced Education 2 - Astrogation 1
Advancement Skill - Service Skills 6 - Gun Combat (slug pistol) 1 (to 2)
Events 8 - Diplomatic Mission - Diplomat 1
Aging roll 10-4=6 (pass)

Rising to Commander, Art ventured outside the Imperium, helping to negotiate a treaty with a client system. He would be posted here for some time, learning tactics and astrogation while travelling through backwater systems looking for pirates.

Term 5: Survival roll 7+1 (pass) Advancement 5+1 (fail, but stay in)
Base Skill - Service Skills 4 - Gunner(turrets) 1
Events 6 - Military Engagement - Pilot (spacecraft) 1 (to 2)
Aging roll 7-5=2 (pass)

Staying on the frontier, Art saw action against Vargr raiders, defending the client state he helped negotiate a treaty with previously. Although he did well, he missed out on a promotion to Captain. He found it somewhat ironic that while he had promoted based on his connections and social skills, but then was passed over when he showed his strengths as an Officer.

Term 6: Survival roll 5+1 (pass) Advancement 7+1 (pass)
Rank Skill - Raise Soc to A
Base Skill - Advanced Education 4 - Computers 1
Advancement Skill - Advanced Education 1 - Remote Operations 1
Events 3 - Gambling Ring (3rd time) - Gambler 1(to 2), roll 8+2 to get extra benefit
Aging roll 5-6= -1, take -1 to Str, -1 to Dex

In his sixth term, Art made Captain, cross-training in various bridge functions. He gain found success at the card table, but became disillusioned with the Navy, where his social skills mattered more than his skills as an officer. After 24 years in the service, Art realized that he wasn't getting any younger, and that this was a good a time as any to leave the Navy and find adventure.

Mustering out: 6 (terms) + 3 (rank) + 2 (Events) = 11 rolls
+1 to all Benefits rolls (rank), +2 to cash rolls (rank+gambling)

Cash rolls: 6+2, 4+2, 3+2 : 120,000 cr
Benefits rolls: 1+1 (+1 Int), 6+1 (+2 Soc), 5+1 (Ship's Boat or 2 shares), 2+1 (2 shares), 4+1 (TAS), 4+1 (2 shares), 4+1 (2 shares), 5+1 (2nd time, Pilot (Small Craft) 1)

Art did well in his career, with a noble rank of Baron for his exploits expanding and defending the Imperium, a TAS membership, and a pension. He also had saved his winnings over the years, and has enough connections to apply several shares towards a ship, and possibly a Ship's Boat. The campaigns he participated in were well-known in the Trailing Imperium, so he can dine out on his tales pretty well.

Baron-Captain Artemsus Bishop

Age 42, 6 terms. Cr 120,000 (+ Cr 12,000 pension)
7A7C9C
Admin-1 Astrogation-1 Carouse-0 Comms-0 Computers-1 Deception-1
Diplomat-1 Engineer (M-Drive)-1 Gambler-2 Gun Combat (slug pistol)-2
Gunner (turrets)-1 Leadership-1 Mechanic-0 Medic-0 Melee (blade)-1
Navigation-1 Pilot (Spacecraft)-2 Pilot (Small Craft)-1
Remote Operations-1 Sensors-0 Streetwise-0 Tactics (Naval)-1
Vacc Suit-0 Zero-G-0
TAS, 6 Shares, Ship's Boat (or 2 more Shares)

I have not done any Connections yet, but he should be able to mesh with the other characters.

Cool. I also forgot to mention that it was also the Mentor's dying wish that Nova find a husband. I am not sure how to handle that in game.

Also, Good pick on Sector for the game. Always fascinated by Antares.

Ahh! Hahha...now I feel a little nervous.

Most of my books and experience are with Gurps Traveller. I have a bunch of the classic books on order, should get them Tuesday.

The main reason I chose Anteres is that it was off the beaten path, not sword worlds, not Solomani, not behind the claw etc. and it still had a high population of backwaters.

So while I'll try to keep to canon classic as much as I can I don't have all the books (yet...I was a bad player and blew 200 bucks on em, everything except the original games 1-6 which was out of stock and the TAS books). So I can't guarantee I'll stay within the lines, but I will try, after all what's the point of having that big beautiful map anyways?

:o

Evan acquired his Gambling skill during his last term. This coincides really nice with Baron Bishop's final term (his 3rd gambling ring). Could this make a nice connection?

If this is okay, I'd like to boost Evan's Deception skill to 3. Gambling seems like a 1st choice but I'd rather boost up Evan's strongest area of expertise, and doing so would still make sense within the context of the connection.

I was initially inclined to think that the Baron (a Naval personnel), with all his gambling skill, had beaten Evan (the Marine, no doubt) in a game of cards. However, I wonder if it should be the reverse, with Evan using his deceptive abilities to win the game. Either way doesn't really matter to me but why else would a stately Baron with high connections, money and skill would want to have anything to do with lowly Evan?

Hmmmm. Then again, maybe the Baron did beat Evan but had pity on him and decided to take him under his wing? Since it is the last term for both of them, could this be how Evan gets introduced to the group?

And I thought I had an imagination. :D

The ironic thing about your comment is that I had recently enrolled and, shortly thereafter, resigned from a culinary school after taking the basics class. The office cubicle world just seems to suit me better.

My fascination with the sector extends only from the Map itself, the numbers and UPPs, I didn't even know about any books. There were also a few Library/Traveller Wiki sort of entries on it, but not much.

What intrigued me was its location, as you have said. It is the Other Marches. I certainly dont expect anything but a great time, and it looks to be the case!

I like how the Navy hands out Ship Boats, when everyone else is lucky if they get a gold plated weapon :P

A fast small ship could come in usefull :?:

I allso like the Sector pick, a long settled backwater should be an interesting place to adventure in...
