First game ever played?

Found it (took 8 seconds). The only book i have ever owned that has been attacked by a bookworm! Holes all the way thru.

Just glanced at it and already have found some realy interesting stuff on 16th century guilds!!!

edit: Last looked at 20 years ago and I read that i rolled up a PC called Thorin Bloodaxe. Clearly I didn't get the point at the time

edit: Christ, it cost the princely sum of £1.95

Is there anyone on this list who isn't an old duffer? :D

given the definition I found at dictionary.reference.com:
Dictionary.reference.com said:
duff·er /ˈdʌfər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[duhf-er] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. Informal.
a. a plodding, clumsy, incompetent person.
b. a person inept or inexperienced at a specific sport, as golf.
2. Northern and North Midland U.S. an old man, esp. a dull or indecisive one.
3. Slang.
a. anything inferior, counterfeit, or useless.
b. a peddler, esp. one who sells cheap, flashy goods.

I'm neither plodding, not incompetent, don't play sports other than fencing, am not an old man, am seldom indecisive, have never been accused of being dull (insane, yes), and am a genuine article, and don't sell anything but my time.

So, no, I'm not an old duffer. And object to the characterization as such as slanderous and mildly offensive.

No, I'm not kidding, either.

I'm sorry you found his comment offensive. In the UK, "Duffer" is usually said in a fond fashion, rarely intended as an insult. Can't say I agree with some of the dictionary definitions, either - at least in the colloquial way the phrase is normally employed. While I wouldn't presume to guess at gamesmeister's intentions in the use of that word, I honestly don't think he intended offense. 'meister? Want to back me up here?

Carl Q. (39 and holding - so I don't fit the criteria either - but smiling at the image)

WHen I've heard the term used in Alaska, it's always a reference to a cheating golfer.

Well, bearing in mind that I include myself in that category, no, of course I didn't. I've never heard it being used as an offensive remark either. Some people need to get thicker skin.

Ah, there we are, then. Another case of "divided by a single language". :D Trust me, it's far less perjorative over here.

Moving back OT, did anyone else play the Dragon Warriors game in the mid-80s and later? And did you know a new, complete DW book (not just a reprint) is due out sometime in the new year?

Carl Q.

Yes, I played Dragon Warriors, that was a lot of fun.

Crikey someone else has played Maelstrom, that was an interesting and unusual game. I still have mine somewhere, I remember running it once and virtually every selected a mercanary character, I was kind of disappointed 'cos I wanted some butchers and bakers in the party. Ah well.

Did anyone ever play Alma Mater? The only RPG to be sold in a brown envelope.
