Firing Arcs with minatures

I just made a template for the largest base with 45 degree markings (doubles for working out scatter) and painted corresponding dots on each base. Helps for working out turns too, without messing with templates and protactors etc.

All you do to work out the angles is line up the dots on the opposite sides of the model and trace the line with your tape measure or ruler. Simple enough and stops (most :wink: ) arguments.

I paint all fire arcs and center line on all my bases, Why? Because I think that it is only fair for my opponent and avoids confusion. In a game in which you can measure at any point, not knowing which fire arc you are in or going to be in is just stupid. If you don't have the fire arcs on your bases and the center line then it makes this to open for honest disagreement, whether it be movement, turns, boresights or fire arcs. I am more than happy to take someones word for it, but also just prefer to remove the opportunity for disagreement on this count from my games.


Sure I think the GF9 templates are a great idea, I have one in the mail. But how to you ensure that this or any oher template is actually lined up correctly with out at least the centreline marked on the base. Since the only point that counts is the base of the stem and the minatures are all different sizes, designs shapes etc... centering a template or counter or something else over the miniature is just as bad.

Personally I think that Mongoose should consider standardising their bases and having the fire arc and center line moulded into these bases. Whether they are raised or sunk into the base I don't mind, but it would work a treat IMHO.

I have just been thinking about these laser pointing tape measures..... Wonders where the cheapest place is to get one.....

Being honest it has nothing to do with determining arcs (although that will be a handy secondary use), my REAL reason would be so that I can splash my opponents models in real laser fire 8) 8) whilst this will be cool for forward arced weapons, its got to be awesome for Boresight!!!!!!!!

Well Ive always meant to buy an Omega, hollow out the front and put the smallest laser pointer I can find into it so that its got a built in boresight laser

Ha stealing my ideas I tried that with my Victory but when taking the laser pointer apart to extract the LED, it stopped working. So I had to make do with standard LEDs. :lol:

Did you manage to get any focus with LEDs? It really needs focus to work

Nah, its more of a pimped up chav Victory than anything useful.

Chavtastic, all it needs is some huge speakers pumping out that *^&% that they believe is music and a 14 year old pushing a pram in front of it screaming abuse at everything else.... range infinite, arcs all, attack dice 10 (+5 for each aditional kid in tow) SAP,TD,Precise, beam, slow loading (stoping to shout at kids and smoke).

I think maybe 30min fun maximum.... by that time it should stamped as flat as a pancake.

We use this to make our bases. In Open Office (or any other text processor) you can paste it, and you will have a page with several bases ready to print out. You can change the scale size, so it does not problem having various base sizes (we have 25, 30, 50 and 55 cm., depending on Mongoose or GW)

When we have the sheet ready, we print it in transparent and adhesive labels for inkjet printers and put it down the base (in this manner you can see it without mirror effect, obviosuly the base must be transparent) and finally we cut a white adhsive circle for protecting the ink and have no problems with gametable color, and put it down the base too.

Depending on your skill puting the adhesive it will be more or less centered, but we think it is precise enough.

Simplest way to measure the arcs is to paint them on the stands (or at least a dot at each 45 degree angle), helps with turning too.
