Firefly RPG?

I don't know that rules set but there is a very unofficial version for Savage Worlds in Savageheroes page (just google it).

Still, it would be a nice exercise to work out a Traveller version for it (and Galactica too).

There is a "Not a conversion" for Unisystem in Eden Studios Presents, vol 1. No, cowboys in space isn't a conversion... Nah... It also provides a set of ship rules for Unisystem.

Not much to work out, other than the 100 AU hexes instead of 1 Parsec, and Jfuel is 1% of hull per Jn per day.... and the map of the system. Oh, and converting jump to hexes/day. Done.

I've worked Serenity out to about 400 tons. She works as a subby just fine. 10 quarters, plus a sickbay (say 4 ton lab retrofit in the cargo bay). MD B, PP B, JD B. Two 20Td lifeboats, two fixed turrets (Mal is a cheapskate)...

The thing is actually if the setting is really only one star system like in Serenity RPG or multiple systems. I managed to miss the series twice when it was aired here and I have been trying to hunt down the DVD box (with subtitles but no luck).

For me it would make much more sense to have multiple star systems rather than one large and odd one... This is relevant when designing the spacecraft.

It's a quintinerary system... 5 stars... there is a map on screen in Serenity.

Whedon has confirmed this.

Which is why I sugested 10au or 100au hexes..

Actually, both series are covered. There's an RPG for each produced by Margaret Weiss Productions. The core system is called Codex and is a very solid yet basic system. The players attributes and skills are represented by dice (e.g. Str d6 and Brawling d4). The GM would pair those two for say...a bar fight... the player would roll d6+d4... simple. With varying degrees of success. Some friends and I played a bit of a campaign until one of our gaming buddies (who was actually playing the ship captain) died from cancer in 12/06... we took a hiatus...

Solid game based upon the best show ever!!! Firefly!!!!

Go Browncoats!

I aim to misbehave.

AKAramis,

So, there are 5 different star systems? Surely the distances between the systems are measured in light years rather than in AUs? AU is a distance between the sun and Earth, IIRC.

DaWarbossMI,

Yes, you are correct that there is Serenity game out by MWP using Cortex game system, BTW ;) The system reminds me a lot of the system used in Earthdawn.

No, one system which has 5 stars in it. Overal distances are in hundreds of AU, not light years. According to Joss Whedon via Margaret Weis Productions' Serenity RPG, and according to Joss in a documentary on the DVD of Firefly.

4 of them orbit the largest, at distances only about treble that of pluto/neptune.

It's about impossible, but I once generated a septinary (7-star) system with traveller.

In Traveller terms, the 'verse is well within a SINGLE hex.
Note also that FTL doesn't exist in the verse, but there are two drive modes, one of which is "deep space" and the other is tactical and landing...

The 'verse's "deep space drive" seems to be a constant speed drive, with a mass restriction, since we don't see it used until several diameters out.

Ah, I got it now, thanks! I own the Serenity RPG but somehow I managed to miss that part...

The illo in the book isn't terribly clear. Hearing in Joss' lisp on the DVD left NO doubt.

Yeah, the pic was not very precise. It would suit for a computer game but I would like a bit more easily measured distances between various worlds. Then again it has been a while since I last read the book and don't remember how it was handled.

In any case Margaret Weiss Products is still having a license and are supposedly negotiating for or maybe even making new material for the game so the is sadly no way for Mongoose to get the license...

Note: The game is licensed from the MOVIE, not the series. (Says so. Also why they only used photos from the movie.)

It may be possible to get the series license...

Ah, that explains the name. Then there could be a possibility for the license although I don't think that it is very likely. Thanks for the info!
