Fire On The ...doormat

Me too - got it and working from home!

The book has a slightly larger format so the text and illustrations now have a nice smart margin and aren't right up to the edge, thanks for listening!

As for the bonus content...you kept that one quiet! Nice one!

I get mine sent to work - so I have it too! I like surprises - the bonus bit was completely unexpected. In good condition, no bumps, binding tight. happy day - Good job Russell

For those of you who have FotW, is it bound acceptably well?

My copy arrived today. It's a tad slimmer than book 1 was (less pages). The soft inner spine doesn't protrude from the hard outer spine so much and it's easier to open (and doesn't snap shut as the first one did, it sort of slowly slides shut instead which makes it a lot easier to keep open). You can open it a lot wider and keep it held open easily. It's a vast improvement on it's predecessor :).

So, is the new FOTW as good as the new FFTD, with 550 sections as well?

It's 350 (like the original) and with no significant changes (although I think I spotted a few :)). The bonus adventure at the back was a nice touch and I was almost inspired to do a bit of Lord Lieutenant Rhygar fan art :).

hopefully
The Caverns of Kalte

will get really fat with 550 Sections

this title really got potential ... may be you can complete it with your team

:D

hm, i have to order Book 2 now ... orginal was very linear anyway

The understanding is that te remaining novels won't get the same drastic rework as FFTD, but there will always be a bonus adventure at the back with a significant character (never Banedon, since the hope is that he will get his own series if the gamebooks really take off)

So they won't be rewrited adjusting the style to the new book? And paid as new? Uhm... not good.

It was never the intention to rewrite the books, but rather to reprint them. The fact the Flight from the Dark got re-written was just a bonus.

I didn't even realize they started shipping out the second book, I just received my first mega-deal book this week! When can people in the US expect to start receiving them? Has everybody that has got it so far been from the UK? I've been checking the forums religiously like usual, but have overlooked the fact that the books have started shipping!! AWESOME :)

I rewrite my post, seems that the forums ate it.

It seems that you know a different story.
Even without knowing that even before Mongoose announcement about the new release of Lone Wolf, all over the internet the voices of this new edition was spread talking about the rewrite of the whole book adjusting the style and adding content, this following line should be enough:
Look here and even better here (or the same here)
Prepare to return to the world of Magnamund. The original gamebooks are being revised and updated with additional storylines, quests and adventures, together with stunning new artwork. The series kicks off with Flight From the Dark, now weighing in at a massive 450 pages. No longer left for dead at the Kai Monastery, Lone Wolf has to fight his way clear to raise the alarm.
...
Subsequent books have all been revised with new material. The first of the new Lone Wolf gamebooks will appear in your local book stores in September 2007 - however, hardbound Collector's Copies will be available, only direct from Mongoose Publishing, at the end of July. Together, they form a superb looking and durable archive of the adventures of Lone Wolf.
...
All 28 of the original Lone Wolf gamebooks are being updated in this new series, but that is not all. Penned specially by Joe Dever, watch out for the final four, never before released gamebooks, numbered 29-32.

This could be false and we could be blame Mongoose for that if it was their fault, but I don't think it's the case because this things was known before. However if it's true that the second book it's not revisited someone has lied.
It's true that the first book was announced as a director's cut but it's even true as you can read that all the other book was meant to be updated (as should be obvious to mantein the same style and continuity). There should be no need of new edition it they are the same books.

If we want to blame Mongoose for something proved to be false, we should read:

By taking on the Magnamund Mega-Deal, you need never miss out on the adventures of the last Kai Lord, Lone Wolf. The Collector's Editions of the original gamebooks are completely revised, with new artwork, story lines and adventures, all printed on high quality paper and encased in a resilient hardcover for maximum durability. Each will be sent to your door as they become available, with Book One: Flight From the Dark released on July 31st, and subsequent books following 6-8 weeks later.

This is just to be more accurate.

By revision I think it's mostly the corrections and tweaks suggested on Project Aon (or other small changes of a similar nature). Whilst reading my copy of the new Fire on the Water I did spot a few small changes.

The new material is mostly the bonus adventure at the back of each book.

Yep, it says they will be revised, and specifically mention book 1 gaining a huge overhaul. I guess one could read it as saying that the rest will recieve major changes, but I always read it as book 1 was getting special treatment, while the subsequent books would have mistakes corrected and feature the 'new material' as the mini-adventures.

I'm really disapointed to see that the new FotW is not revised, but rather just corrected...

Indeed, Mongoose wasn't really clear about that, letting us think that all books were being revised. What's the purpose of rewriting the first book if the following books don't follow the changes. For me it's useless. But now I understand how they can publish the new books so quickly...
