Fighters and Scenarios - 2nd Ed

What a waste, if you have to use a capital ship to initiate the jump point, I have serious doubts that anyone is going to send in a fighter and then hope a fighter lives long enough to do a scan.

If you give it advanced jump point, and its a HUGE fighter, then let it jump. ISA has few enough ship choices as it is, so this removes another viable one. Because without the use of the jump point, a Nial is a better fighter, and is stealthy, and can skin dance, so why would you take all that away to carry something that reduces your ability.

Perhaps this Borken item needs to be addressed. Not a good trade off, I guess I will use my allies choice and grab a Mimbari carrier because the WS carrier is OK, but it uses the WS fighters, which just dropped a lot lower on my useful list. Glad I was using counters. 8)

WS fighters dogfight as good as a nial, they have hull 5 and 3AD of AP DD precise weapons - whats not to like (apart from the 4+ dodge).

Problem is that if you give it ability to make jump points, then there'll be Jump Point Bombs going off all over the place. A Fleet Carrier can start with 2 fighters deployed in hyperspace, so that is 3 JP bombs coming from 1 ship!!

AJP trait being useless doesn't make the WS fighter broken. The only thing broken about the WS fighter is its cost, and that has nothing to do with its ability to make jump points or not.

bearing in mind you will have cap ships in normal space, then the WS fighters will come through, join the battle, and a turn later there carrier/Escort will come in, it is a viable tactic to send in a wing of WS fighters behind say the centauri who can't do squat about it! Also, the few choices of the ISA? the isa can field any league, narn, or EA ship up to the FAP limit! and get new ships in second ed (indeed the nolotar is already out) dependent upon the size of battle, the ISA has the biggest ship choice of any race!

No stealth, so if you try just jumping in to run up your scanners, you will pretty much join the cosmos as dust.

and dodge 2+ and stealth 4+ for use as a recon ship vs dodge 4+ and no stealth (from memory, might be off). So, if you have to use a capital ship to open the jump point, squirt the Nial in out of danger, then move in w stealth and much improved dodge. Cause if the WS fighter is suppose to be more than a one trick pony, it needs some work

try using the WS fighter with the WS carrier, and see how much work it needs! I have seena WS carrier decimate an enemy fleet with ease, as I suspect have others, that fleet carrier trait on a viable warship, carrying all those heavy fighters? on it's own the WS fighter is probably not worth taking, but the fighter carrier combo is deadly!

Mimbari carrier would be a Morshin class carrier smart ##*.

And yea, they get to make a choice from other folks. But their own choices are very limited. WS, WSII, WSGunship, WS fighters, the Cargo ship and the Carrier. 6 ships of their own. Which are good ships but limited. In our ongoing campaign, White stars die in flocks (my inability to hit anything with the main gun is remarkable, so far, shot 34 times and missed on every die roll. )

I am still confused about the Victory because that is an EA ship, at least thats what Crusade says, else why would a politician from Earth have any control of an ISA ship?

But I digress, anyway, very limited primary choices.

And hiffano, mine got smoked the first time it flew, the fighters got swamped by an EA carrier fighter wing, then it was swarmed by the remaining fighters. A good choice for a lot of things, but our rolls for the scenarios tend to go to large point spread slugfests. I have yet to see any real potential. But the WS 2 does very well indeed.

No, that would be a Minbari carrier ;)

It is an ISA ship on loan to the EA, to find a cure to the Drakh plague.

the Victory class was built by the EA with some minbari assistance as a new heavy destroyer for the ISA, commissioned by President sheridan. in Crusade, it was on "loan" to the EA to help find the cure for the drakh plague, after said mission it would have returned to the ISA for use by a compliment of rangers.

I believe it was explained as a ISA ship and how it was commisioned etc in A callt o arms, then explained how it was loaned to the EA in Crusade ep 1

yep very nasty - esp with the carrier - +1 dogfight being ISA +1 for fleet carrier, watched a carrier load do over a hundred points of damage to a Shadow Cruiser in one turn.............and if they die - might even get them back

Whats not to like...............
