Depends on the IED. Most were detonated by mobile phones etc. And the newer Iranian made ones are more sophisticated (mostly 'cos the Americans started jamming mobiles).

Or less sophisticated - you cannot jam a piece of string. . .

True but you can cut it... or shoot the person standing around whistling serupticiously with a long string trailing from your tank ;)

Feyadeen- "one who is ready to sacrifice his life"

The name was used 1) for a group of individuals in Iran who helped to bring about the 1979 revolution

and 2) Palestinian soldiers during the 1948 war against Israel

So, it IS an general Middle Eastern thing, not something just to do with Iraq.

Indeed, they have been around for a while. They are also the basis for the Fedyakin in Dune. . .

as for IEDs being overpowered - you ever seen one go up, its what the IRA used all those years. if it was sophisticated it wouldnt be an IED and IED stands for improvised explosive device. yes you can use mobiles to detonate them but the british forces have been jamming mobile signals for years with the ECM they have, even mobile ECM packs for carrying on smoeones back (and they weigh alot :( )

OK, they had some really old Russian stuff, T-55s, BMP-1s, and BTR-60s. But not a modern(ish) tank force in the way Iraq did.
But to be fair the Iranians are now preparing for an American invasion, as they think the US want to do to them what they have done to Iraq, ie make it a land of democracy and happiness and everyone gets a free mountain bike.
Whether it'll be an official invasion or just bombing is anyones guess, but there's a big terrorist training camp full of fanatics outside Baghdad that the Pentagon really want to unleash on Iran. Getting rid of that camp was the pre-condition Iran had for helping stabilise Iraq and making their nuclear program transparent.

Okay okay...

though I was speaking from a point of tactics and strategic placement... Ben2 was looking more like he was politics.

Well, they've started equipping HMMWVs over in OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) with jammers designed to target cellphone based IEDs.

Sophisticated is what you make of it, in all honesty. String based IEDs, Cellphone... heck, there's a couple of cases of IR tigger devices on some IEDs.

you heard about the suicide bombers with mercury tilt switches - soldier gets him to halt and put his hands up, the switch attached to the arm sets bomb off when arms go up.
the thing with IEDs though is becuase they are improvised they tend to be less stable, hence the question about running and diving around a battlefield or being shot whilst carrying one.

Here's a little bit of Satire, but you can learn from it..

Fedayeen in various spellings anf forms have been around for centuries

IEDs can be anything from a 122mm shell burried in the road up to some factory built devices. Calling them IEDs is just a presentation thing.

My question about the Feds is more basic - according to Hiros playtest card they have a 4+ hit and a 7 kill but no armour, which means they dont get any benefit from their 7+ kill as they all die on 4+ hits. The models have armour, should they have an armour stat??
