Fedayeen

question about these guys - will they explode when you shoot them? or perhaps have chance of exploding if they run :) they are carrying IEDs after all and these are not the safest or most stable thing to be carrying around a battlefield with you :)

They are? Are you sure? I was under the impression they were just elite infantry. Id be very wary of putting things like IEDs and potential suicide bombing units into the game as your gonna piss people off if you start treading TOO close to the current war in iraq.

I mean look at the flak C&C Generals took when it originally came out (personally I loved the game and am not crazy enough to be unable to tell the difference between GAME and REALITY but theres plenty of whiney hippie types out there who would complain Im sure...) ;)

they carry explosives for blowing up tanks,(size 2 stuff or bigger) not suicidestuff, altho running up to a tank can be quite unhealthy..

They really do carry IEDs according to the description.

Each member of the Fedayeen also carries an IED, ready to detonate upon arrival at an important objective or enemy armoured vehicle. The presence of the Fedayeen in a force guarentees the enemy will take you seriously.

But I don't remember Hiro's cards saying anything about them prematurely going off.
Though I would consider it if the target model (Fedayeen) had it's Kill score beaten, and then the attacker rolled a nat10 on a D10.

hmm well I dont mind them doing that as long as they keep things reasonable, I just would prefer the MEA not to turn into the 'steryotype terrorist faction'.

The Fedayeen are an Iraqi thing, why are they made into apart of the MEA force? That’s like placing a bunch of Samurais to represent all of Asia.

Well Im HOPING that the MEA are going to get stuff from various other member states, like Egypt and Turkey as we go on (much like the EFTF will get French and German units etc etc)

Rouge,

I think it's more of a case of 'What other name would you call a bunch of "elite" irregular troops' instead of MEA is Iraq

yup mea start with iregular troops first, think of these guys as the sas of the nomal irregular mea squads, as the game grows there will be more goverment troop envolment, including tanks ans air attack, the middle east is a very big place, i think more troops in helmets would have been a cop out and going for iregular troops first makes it more fun and interesting tacticly.

looking at hiros card i realy hope they knock the power back on them as they seem more like mini nukes than a exsplosive charge to be honest.

2D10+2 with -3 armour save is crazy in my opinion especialy with a 2" blast and D10 damege in area ,, way over kill. with several men planting them its 100% going to die !!! i think the rules for the fedayeen compared to hiros card will eventualy be different well i hope so, as they are there the most destructive unit in the game especialy being able to ignor supression !!!

but must keep in mind these are the playtest rules and not final versions in all probability.

Recall that the Fedayeen have to close with their target and plant the bombs, and then try and get back out alive - a tank that's yet to react will tear them to pieces with MG fire (though will likely take some bad hits next turn)

Also, if that tank is in cover when the Fedayeen charge, it gets to react BEFORE they place their bombs

Which is precisely why we have never done a bomb-laden car or truck, despite this being one of the most requested units among our playtesters. . .

Good good :)

And when all's said and done if you REALLY want to play a terrorist faction and throw good taste to the wind you could always just make your own houserules for such units. Having official ones would only cause trouble imho.

Depends on the IED. Most were detonated by mobile phones etc. And the newer Iranian made ones are more sophisticated (mostly 'cos the Americans started jamming mobiles). As such I don't think they would explode when hit. But I ain't sure I'm totally right so Hiro is your best bet.

the playtest versions had them exsploding at the end of the next MEA's turn, this would allow the tank to attack befor it went boom or maybe in future get bombs neutralised by engineers.

Feyadeen- "one who is ready to sacrifice his life"

The name was used 1) for a group of individuals in Iran who helped to bring about the 1979 revolution

and 2) Palestinian soldiers during the 1948 war against Israel

So, it IS an general Middle Eastern thing, not something just to do with Iraq.

To my knowledge, the tank that the MEA is getting is an Iranian tank.

The Zulfiqhar is based heavily on the M-60 (which the Iranians have) and looks quite a lot like the M1A1. It has a 125mm gun and a couple of MGs. It isn't going to be the equal of MBTs like the Challenger II, but bear in mind when Iran were designing it they still had Saddam to worry about, and it was easily the equal of anything he still had. Irans other major enemy was the Taliban, and they didn't have tanks at all.

Other tanks the MEA can use are the Challenger I and II, the M1A1, the M-60, the T-72, T-64, T-55, T-90 and T-95, the AMX-30, the AMX-13, the Centurion Mk-10, the Chieftain and a couple of others.
