Feb 2009: Warrior's Companion

It is a mostly "crunch" book similar to the Hyboria's Fiercest in the H's-F series. A way for us to expand on some new fighting styles, skill uses for warrior-types, etc.

As I know that many of our Conan fans are "all fluff/no crunch" fans, I am hoping that the people who do like new toys, new rule add-ons, and yes...new elite classes...will enjoy it immensely. It will give several new culture-specific warrior-isms (fighting styles, feats and the like).

It will NOT be a simple reprint/rehash of Hyboria's Fiercest, though.

Cheers all,
Bry

I like crunch too.

Fluff makes for a fun read but then rarely ever gets looked at again. Besides, since most of my players are as knowledgeable on the various established settings as I am I usually mix everything up anyway so that they can't (necessarily) rely on canon; especially when it's something their character wouldn't really know anyway.

I think the same thing for anything that is either too crunchy or too fluffy.

Stuff that does both, that's worth reading again. For example, Hyboria's fiercest mentions that Horses are so rare for southern black kingdom's tribesmen, that they need to make a terror check the first time they see a horse. I love it! Fleshes out my character but also has rules mechanics that I get to play with.

All fluff is a good story, but once I know the gist, I'm done. All crunch and I don't want to read it again unless I have to. I mean, how often does anyone really WANT to read the combat chapter? Sure, we have to read it more than once, but it detracts from the game in my opinion.

I really am looking forward to this. Am I being too hopeful in expecting further "Knowledge (X)" type skills simlar to the two fencing styles? I am hoping that there is some sort of martial art/Khitan/Vendyan like staff fighting, or unarmed fighting.
