I was woundering what ships people like to use most offen, I was thinking of what classes everyone uses. Favorite Battleship/Battlecruiser,Heavy Cruiser, Light Cruiser, Destroyer, Aircraft Carrier and Sub.

Battleship - USS South Dakota
Battlecuiser - USS Alaska
Carrier - HMS Illustrious
Heavy Cruiser - HMS London
Light Cruiser - HMS Arethusa
Destroyer - HMS Kelly
Submarine - I-400

Not for reasons of speed, power, armament etc. but for various personal reasons, some related to gaming, some to sheer attractivenes and some because of family attachments

That's great Dm I too use some odd ball ships depending on what country I am playing.

Battleship: HMS Vanguard
Battlecrusier: HMS Hood
H Cruiser: Kent Class
L Cruiser: Fiji Class
Destoryer: Tribal Class
Carrier: HMS Arc Royal
Sub: German E boats

WW2:
Battleship: HMS Vanguard
Battlecrusier: HMS Repulse
H Cruiser: Bolzano
L Cruiser: Giuseppe Garibaldi
Destroyer: Tribal Class
Carrier: HMS Formidable
Sub: British T class I reckon.

WW1:
Batleship: Warspite
Battlecruiser: Tiger
Armoured Cruiser: San Giorgio
Light Cruiser: SMS Novara
Destroyer: Mirabello
Sub: difficult to choose really... no comment.

Battleship: - USS Tennessee
Battlecuiser: - IJN Kongo
Carrier: - USS Wasp
Heavy Cruiser: - USS New Orleans
Light Cruiser: - USS Atlanta
Destroyer: - USS Fletcher (USS Johnston)
Submarine: - none

[Old thread, I know, but one that didn't get enough responses!]

My favorites:

Battleship - IJN Fuso; she feels like some old dragon crawling out of her cave to do battle one last time.

Battlecruiser - RN Hood and IJN Kongo; ships designed along the lines of HMS Tiger are, in my opinion, among the most elegant capital ships put to sea.

Heavy Cruiser - if you count pocket battleships, then those. I used to play with "contact" markers that only indicated relative ship size up until we reached visual range or got scouts out that way. The look on the Brit players' faces was always priceless when a cruiser blip became a pocket battleship. Think Obi Wan Kenobi's line "That's no moon..."

If you don't count pocket battleships, then RN Norfolk or Kriegsmarine Admiral Hipper. I appreciate the CAs that look like battleships if you don't have something nearby for scale.

Light Cruiser - USN Brooklyn for the stupid amount of guns she carries.

Destroyer - USN Porter [EDIT: I meant Clemson]; 'cause I like ships with four funnels...or sometimes the Japanese destroyers for their wicked torpedoes.

Subs - German Type VII, since I used to play one in Aces of the Deep.

Planes - USN Avengers or RN Fairey Swordfish...both because they look cool.

Favourite
Battleship : HMS Warspite
Battlecruiser : FS Strasbourgh
Carrier: HMS Indomitable
Heavy Crusier: IJN Mogami (5x 8" twin turrets FTW...plus wicked torpedos)
Light Cruiser: HMS Uganda (HMCS Quebec)
Destroyer: HMCS Hiada
Submarine: British T-class

Least Favourable
Battleship : HMS Nelson/Rodney (they are ugly)... use them with a tiny paper bag over them.
Battlecruiser : HMS Repulse/Renown
Carrier : FS Bearn/ RM Aquila
Heavy Cruiser : Anything American (no torpedoes = bad combat cruiser)
Light Cruiser : French La Galosonair class
Destroyer: tough decision, I don't know if there are any that I don't like
Submarine : The one placed in the wrong sector of the table

Designs so crazy that they become awesome
Battleship: Richillue
Battlecruiser : Dunkurque
Carrier: Akagi/Kaga (8" guns)
Heavy Cruiser: Mogami/Tone
Light Cruiser : Erebus/ Roberts (they may be slow, but they've got a BIG gun)
Destroyer : Shimakaze (a sunken ship waiting to happen)
Submarine: Sourcoff (need I say more?)

Craziest naval designers ever : French... and it works

Some responses for the Great War:

Dreadnought - probably Colossus or some other ship with an odd-ball arrangement of turrets. You just don't see stuff like this in later periods so it is fun to play when you can.

Battlecruiser - HMS Tiger for aesthetic reasons or Moltke for historical reasons.

Armoured Cruiser - HMS Duke of Edinburgh, as I like ships with four stacks, she has a cool knife-blade bow, and she did rather well at Jutland.

Pre-Dreadnought - Deutschland-class, mainly for their appearance at Jutland and Schleswig Holstein's part in World War 2.

Light Cruiser - I don't really care much for Great War light cruisers, though Germany's Bremen has a neat-looking casemate gun arrangement.

Destroyer - British "Admiralty M" for their look

I like lots of ships from various navies but the Vittorio Veneto is my favorite ship its sleek design and gun ranges are great.

Hi, I want to share Some experience about favouirte ships that if you really want to visit Antarctica and spend several days there, Corinthian II is the best. It ranks top in luxury and has stabilizers!! If a basic drive-by then there are regular cruise ships but I have not been on those in that region.Because Corinthian II is very different from every ship and it is the best one.

Regrettably nothing that I am able to talk about. The only thing I can mention at the moment is the (painfully slow) drafting of the AOD supplement.

ww2

BB: performance based id go with HMS Warspite, but for looks either HMS Vanguard or Tirpitz

BC: Refitted Hood. mainly because in one of the first games i played my friend took Yamato and the first salvo knocked his main guns out for a few turns and the second hit his magazines and blew the arrogant lil nip out of the water. Mighty Ood indeed. not to mention that the kongos have pagodas in this period which makes them ugly.

HC: Pocket BB's are cool but if they dont count i like Prinz Eugen. good looking ship

LC: i am a fan of the british cruisers with 4 triple 6's or the US atlanta class.

DD: they are all cool.

AC: I HATE CARRIERS!!! planes take all the fun out of it, so ill go with whatever one my BB has in its sights currently.

WW1 (now we get down to the good stuff)

BB: I like how the US New mexico's looked upon completion with the armoured citidel for the bridge. very purposeful looking ships.

BC: the kongos upon completion with the armoured citidel bridge before the pagodas. failing that, tiger.

AC: black prince.

LC: HMS Furious with 2x18's LOL, light cruiser my @$$

DD:, again, all cool. i especially like using Courageous, Glorious and Furious as DD flotilla leaders. makes me laugh so hard that my ships poo out mines.
