First of all true science doesn't hide. We leave that to other ideologies that have difficulty, if not impossiblility, with the truth. Secrets in sciences are more often business driven. When science is open it can be disproved, corrected and improved. The first rule we are taught is an experiment proving a hypothesis must be reproducable by others.
They said they ran the same tests over and over and got the same result. The original theory says it shouldn't happen but observation says it is. Rather than dismiss it or cover it up they ask others to verify the finding by running the experiment. Someone may actually say "Here's your error!" and that is a plus for scientific investigation. On the other hand other could conclude the obsevation is indeed correct and we have something new and exciting to add to our knowledge.
At one time bottling lightning was impossible, speaking, hearing, and seeing over vast distances was madness and traveling to the realm of the gods was unnatural. Nowadays we look back at people like that and pity their ignorance.
For all we know jump drives are more than possible if we answer the right questions and build the right devices to see what is really out there.
