I lost my last game with bugs vs MI, 1000 points. He had a TAC Fighter and I really had no defense against it. It killed my Brain Bug on the last turn and won the game for the MI.

So, yes, I think they are definitely worth the points.

Depends: against skinnies, or bugs without one or two plasmas/rippler or hopperswarms - definitely worth the points. Against MI (especially using AA missiles) - better not to bother.

An emphatic YES!

Even against MI its worth it - use standard Air Superiority tactics. First get any defending air out of the way, then go Wild Weasel - suppress the SAMS and AA weapons. Then you just mop up the pathetic survivors.

As a bug player who has gotten the highest total battle point score in every tournament that I've played in, I can say that the TAC fighter is definitely the unit that I fear most in the Mobile Infantry.

There are DOZENS of ways to take out my AA weapons, but only a few ways for me to take out a TAC, so a TAC is certainly a good investment.

Mop up the fighter remains You mean - single birdbolt may be enough to strike down a TAC, not to mention a few accompanying falcons ensuring it. Fighters are too fragile to risk sending them against MI with AA missiles, especially they are never able to suppress enough infantrymen to avoid getting wasted with response fire. Even worse for them when an Ammo Dump is present, then they get shot on reaction even before being able to fire.
