Excel Ship Designer v2025.07.22

Oh, these bastard things.

The bridge-alternative actually isn't that bad - it's just one table, same as the stock bridges - but my god, the automation nonsense! It's made worse with the K'Kree equivalents that're almost, but not quite, the same. Managing that in one table was an absolute nightmare...

Yea, that is bullshit. Those numbers and costs are just too high, especially when compared to what you can do with 3I automation and basic robots.

Hello all, I am looking for information as to the cooldown of jump engines. If a ship has enough fuel to make 2 jumps how long must they wait after exiting one jump before they can enter another jump? I seen it somewhere but can't find it now. If you know what book and page this is discussed on I would appreciate it.

I don’t think that is spelled out. Rather than ask it here, it deserves its own topic and then this could be changed to a link to that post, honestly. We can chew up the scenery on a subject like that and this topic isn’t meant to be for discussion.

Edit: I made a thread for this and here is the link.

Thanks, I dropped it in a place that I felt would get seen by those I think would know. Thanks for making the thread.

@Arkathan, the first stretch goal adventure--Lost Adventure 1 - The Annililik Affair--for Singularity just dropped and it has High Guard goodness in it.

Refueling on atmosphere 8+ worlds? Game changer.

I'm happy to see upgraded fuel scoops that cost tonnage, actually - I've been wanting something like that for a while to make refuelling boats more viable, but the Atmosphere 8+ thing seems... bold. Also, these are cheaper than normal scoops until you get beyond 200t, which feels wrong.

By the way, can I get a page number? I need to add sources to my features, and my copy of Singularity ain't come yet.

More High Guard material that is not in High Guard. @MongooseMatt This is getting ridiculous. If this is the path the company continues taking, I may go an look for a company that keeps ship construction rules in the actual ship construction book and not scattered all over the place.

I maintain a sheet as well, believe me I get it, but I think it's a bit unreasonable to demand they come up with every single component for every single purpose that you could ever possibly want on a ship, all in a book of sensible length. Pointless additions that either don't provide anything new or actively conflict with others is ridiculous - cough, Dougherty, cough - but adding alien tech in alien books, or robot tech in robot books...?

If you really wish to be that simple, it is easy. Base High Guard for general shipbuilding, then a High Guard for each "race" with things in them specific to that "race's" shipbuilding, such as Aslan Shrines or Hiver Automation. The main High Guard though should have a method for shipbuilding for races that are not human-sized. A race the size a cats wouldn't need a 4-ton stateroom, and a race the size of bears would need larger staterooms/common areas etc

Or, at least, the 'Updates' to High Guard should contain the High Guard material from scattered sources to date. At a minimum, a reference with source, page number, and a thumbnail description so that ship-designers are at least aware of ship-design relevant options.

It needs a web page that lists all the addenda to HG rules since the last edition was printed.

For Me it is less of an issue, since all of My books are PDFs. The climate in Honduras caused most of My hardcopies to mold very badly, so I had to get rid of most of them. So, in my case, as long as the PDFs get updated I am good to go.

Good news, @MasterGwydion! I just found some updated rules on external cargo inside my cereal box! They really are putting the updates everywhere!
