Evo in the new Blog !

At least the groundwork for the move forward is being laid. That's a definite plus, rather than signing the deal and then saying, "Ok, now what?".

how it will integrate with the current game

That comment worries me a little.

It could mean that they will reboot models that were already released with new versions and that older models will fit just fine.

Well if they provide any changed unit cards as pdf downloads for free I'll be OK, but if anything invalidates the advanced rulebook I'll be less than pleased.

I'm pretty sure they won't go that far. It seems like this has only to do with new models. And if there are any new rules, I'm sure they will be an add-on to current rules.

Mattel is advertising that it is about to release rules for GI Joe.

Any details on this? Just asking as G.I. Joe is a Hasbro brand (e.g., WotC's big spending uncle). Just seems VERY unlikely unless WotC were to completely pick up Mongoose for a rules set.

Dunno, they've revamped B5 and B5 ACTA recently making old supplements redundant in the latter, and not living up to the compatibility promises made about the former.

Maybe I'm just being over sensitive.

It would be hard to invalidate the advanced rulebook without completely changing the rules. The advanced rulebook was playtested for a number of months, along with the first year of releases, junking that would mean more playtesting for similar or different units, and further delays.

And all I'm saying is it wouldn't be the first time Mongoose largely junked a ruleset that was well established, 1st edition B5 RPG being an example.

If that statement was true, then it needed another few months. Because there are some REAL problems with them. I use the Adv. Book as a guideline.

The following is a list of things that are not defined clearly, just not addressed well, or just doesn't work.

Elevated firing/air.
Smoke. USELESS.
Grenades in buildings.
transports and what happens when troops are in them and the transport is destroyed.
Bad examples of split and mulitiple targets or lack of information.
How different cost and upgrades are combined.
TOTALLY BROKEN Active Protection Systems.
Total lack of upgrades for the PLA and MEA government troops.
Artillery rules that are really mortar rounds. Hence they have no effect if troops are in cover, even if it is OPEN TOP cover!!!
Poor defining of Emplacements, or just complete lack of it!!

Now being a former playtester for different gaming systems, I can understand that the playtester is in a bottle, and doesn't get all the facts and information. Things slip thru or do not get enought time to test out all the angles. But, PLEASE I wouldn't say by any of the imagination that this set was tested well. Neither was some of the cards, Air comes to mind. I still thing elevated bonus was not taken into account when those cards were made. It made them too powerful. (Im talking about fix air, and high attack helicopters) I find the sweet spot for this game is keeping transports and medium attack helicopters in the mix, but keeping out all others types except in VERY LARGE games, and even then no more than 1 per side of those types.
