Eternal Champion Species

A possible extra intelligent race for the game setting depends on how literally you want to take take a quirky piece of Elric's humour .
' I was hungry for some fresh octopi, which Melniboneans had always eaten with great respect. The creatures possess intelligences greater than most mortals. certainly their flavour is considered subtler.' ( The Skrayling Tree ).
Admittedly a rather limited adventurer if used as a PC!
RPG examples of intelligent octopi include The Children of Pyaray in Chaosium's old 'Rogue Mistress'scenario book and also the Nipponese weapon weilding ( and amphibious ) tako in the old 'Land of Ninja' RQ book.

'Xiombarg's Children' in S&P 89 provides some background and rules for the Alofians, a race of hermaphrodites who are termed 'savages' by other races.
I freely admit that the material presented is highly speculative as I only had a line of text from MM's writing to go on.

Better late than never.

I always thought (I'm going to have re-read the whole EC series again, damn! That'll be a chore!) that the Warrior in Jet and Gold was Orland Fank's brother and his son Jeramiah was the personification/soul (like Tibetan Golden Child) of the Runestaff.

How did I get that so wrong?

The Warrior In Jet And Gold and Orland Fank always refer to themselves as brothers although they're brothers not because they share the same parents, but because they both serve the Runestaff. I don't think Jehamias is meant to be taken as their son though.

5) Perhaps there is more than one warrior in Jet and Gold, much like there is more than one incarnation of the Champion.

Oh, and do we ever find out much more about eh seers of Narhain or the Dharzi from Moorcock? Or the Myrrhyn? Moorcock tells his story while only fleshing out enough side material to give the setting depth. So much is left unanswered that there are infinite answers to almost any question. Even the stuff that we "know" is open to interpretation. Maybe the "Ghost People" Eldren go off to become the Melniboneas, as hinted. Any maybe someone is is guessing and got it wrong.

I would be nice for RPG purposes if Mike would fill in some info, maybe flesh out the cultures in the YK a bit, but I doubt we'll even get the sort of detail and info that we are used to in a RPG setting. It just isn't necessary for an author's viewpoint, and not spelling everything out actually adds a more realistic feel to the background.

As Loz mentioned the Seers get coverage in the fourth story in Elric the Making of a Sorceror. Sepiriz is a shape changer with a crow form in this series, perhaps his bretheren have similar powers ?
Another visit to the Realm of the Black Seers, and more details about their history, is provided in 'The Skrayling Tree'. They appear to have created the two black swords from a 'master blade'.

It'll never happen. Mike invests in his worlds only what he needs for the stories he wants to tell. He has no interest in world building or adding detail to supplement anything outside the stories and novels.

Ahhh, and then the light is switched on.
