ERRATA - It Begins!

The rank and service table on page 20 (marines) makes reference to a "Lance sergeant" rank. Is this accurate or should that be "lance corporal"?

Allen

Lance Sergeant is an actual rank in the British army.

Technically, it's a brevet rank... and only in use in a couple of elite honor units.

A Lance-Sergeant (LSgt or L/Sgt) was a British Army Corporal acting in the rank of Sergeant. The appointment could be removed at will by the soldier's commanding officer, unlike a full rank, which could only be removed by court martial. Lance-Sergeants first appeared in the 19th century and were abolished in 1946, except in the Foot Guards and Honourable Artillery Company, which still retain them. In these regiments, all Corporals are automatically appointed Lance-Sergeant on their promotion, so Lance-Sergeants perform the same duties as Corporals in other regiments and are no longer really acting Sergeants in anything but name. Some cadet units also retain the rank. The Household Cavalry equivalent is Lance-Corporal of Horse.

Lance-Sergeants wear three rank chevrons. In full dress, Foot Guards Lance-Sergeants are distinguished from full Sergeants by their white chevrons (full Sergeants wearing gold).

This one seems to have been lost in the recent board problems (is it Hivers or Virus???)

Anywho, I'm not sure if this is errata or just differences of opinion, but I am putting it here anyway.

World Building, specifically Temperature.

Temperature is rolled after Atmosphere, but before Hydrographics. It affects Hydrographics (at Hot and Roasting), but seems to have no other affect on the charactertistics of the world. I think this is wrong.

Specifically, in the Trade Codes:

Agricultural (Ag) worlds should only be possible if the world is Temperate. Too high or low temperature will prevent large-scale food production. Antarctica in winter is Cold and the Sahara in summer (during the day) is Hot. Neither place could ever really be Agricultural in the Traveller sense.

Garden (Ga) worlds should only be possible where the world is Temperate. In the description of Garden worlds it even says "Earth-like". That won't happen at extreme temperatures.

OPTIONAL WORLD BUILDING RULES:
Under the optional rules box, Temperature should affect the Population as well as atmosphere. I would suggest a -1 DM if the world is not Temperate. Extreme Temperatures are as hard to deal with as tainted atmospheres.

Roasting and Frozen Temperatures might even warrent a minimum TL (say 7).

I LIKE that Temperature has been added to the world building rules, but it needs to be used throughout the rules, not just for Hydrographics.

THANX

True, but it does exist and I did not want to confuse the issue . The couple of honour units (8 reigments) make up about a quarter of the army's fighting regiments (but not strength) these days.

Lance Sergeant was something in the original Mercenary book in any case - given an E4 equivalent back in the days of CT. So we can't claim credit for it.

For those wishing to add to the errata / possible errata PLEASE keep the spots coming - I spent a large part of yesterday poring over deck plans and getting cross-eyed counting squares :? and there is still time before I put together the pdf (although with a pdf it is pretty easy to amend later, if necessary).

Ok a repost of what was lost the other day:

- grenades seem expensive.
- Heavy Weapons have no ammo costs listed
- no SMGs on the weapon tables!
- some weapon stats seem iffy, e.g. rocket launchers: 4d6+4 is better than 5d6 on average, although 5d6 is the higher TL version.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but armour could do with a second look.

The ratings for Flak vests seems to have got mixed up with Cloth (in that TL10 full body cloth is rated less than TL8 flak vest).

Also, they seem a bit weak, too. Even when wearing combat armour there is a decent chance of taking a wound from an auto-pistol.

It seems the ratings need boosting, by 2 points at the lower end, and 3 or 4 or even 5 at the upper end.

Starship Combat - errata

The range modifiers are missing ref p147.

References needed for this section (such as damage levels are all over the place in starship operations and the construction sequence).

Not errata, but weapons have changed significantly in effect from CT.

Beam laser - CT 1 hit, MongT 2d6
Pulse laser - CT 2 hits, -1 DM, MongT 1d6
Missiles - CT d6 hits, MongT 1d6 plus effectively two rolls to hit.

Of course can be easily put back by;

Beam laser - MongT 1d6
Pulse laser - MongT 2d6, -1DM (maybe -2 but haven't looked at the math)
Missiles - MongT (d6)d6 (or just make it 3d6), could keep the two rolls

6G Travel times are missing in table. p145

Weapons:

Why does the Auto Pistol have Auto 4 (the same as an assault rifle)? It is a semi-automatic weapon (as stated in the text), and does not have burst or auto fire capability.

Wow missed that one when I was looking through the book. I like the idea of my Auto Pistol being a machine pistol like a Beretta Model 93R.

Personal damage (p65) and vehicle (p67) damage add effect to the damage roll, but starship damage doesn't (p150)?

Either the damage rolls are inconsistent or reference to effect is missing for starship scale.

I just wrote up this world that I rolled using the MGT rules:

In another thread said:
Miigu CAB3230-9 Fl Lo A 711 Im G0 V M7 V M9 V

With Miigu's crushing gravity, corrosive atmosphere, and roasting climate, inhospitable doesn't even begin to describe the surface of the planet. The ocean of sulfuric acid is just icing on the cake. The pressure cooker surface conditions do produce a variety of exotic chemical compounds rarely found elsewhere.

This world has a "Fluid Ocean" trade code which indicates an unbreathable atmosphere (10+) with some hydrographics (1+). However, according to the char gen rules, a character from this world would have Seafarer as a possible background skill because of the trade code.

It seems unlikely that the inhabitants are doing much boating in a climate like that. Vacc Suit might be a better background skill for these conditions.

On the list of Homeworld skills the Planetary type Low Population isn't listed, is this because they don't get one or was it missed?

Page 4 "Technology levels" section, TL10

Copy states "economic boon". The normal terminology is 'economic boom' as in "boom and bust".

A boon is also a word meaning a benefit, or gift, and in that sense does fit.

The task description for surgery is missing - it doesn't appear in the Medic skill description on p.56 nor does it appear in the surgery section on p.75.

Anyhow, it should probably be Medic, Dexterity, 1-6 hours, Difficult (-2). High-tech microsurgery or robo-surgery would probably use Intelligence instead.

Combat Armor should IMHO require Vacc Suit-0 for the very least to wear: both it's predecessor (HEV suits) and its offspring (Battledress) require skills to use, so it SHOULD have a skill required. Furthermore, it is describe4d as a vacc suit of sorts, but with far better armor - so it SHOULD need a skill to wear.

Oh, and it required Vacc Suit-1 in CT as well.

The travel times table lacks a column for acceleration rating 6;

also, and I may have missed this, ( I only thought about it once safely away from the book...) it didn't seem to indicate if the time was using a standard accellerate/turnover/decelerate flightpath, or a straight point to point acceleration...I'm assuming it is the former, as thats the most common use.

Perhaps including the scary travel time formula in one of those cool "did you know" grey text boxes with a disclamer that this is only for those who "worry about this level of detail and have motivation to use a calculator to resolve such questions....."

The trade value table (used when computing number of passengers or frieght lots) has several entries of "-".

Does this mean a modifier of "0" (which is used for other entries), or does it indicate that no passengers/lots are available at all in those circumstances ?

The rules for surgery state that surgery requires a hospital or a sickbay.

Sickbays are not mentioned in the ship design rules, nor anywhere else except in the deckplan for the Mercenary Cruiser which apparently has one. Although it isn't mentioned in the ship's writeup.

Q. What happens if initiative reaches 0 from reactions? (personal and starship combat).

IMTU, the target has become overwhelmed by incoming attacks and can no longer react or act, becoming wide open to additional attacks.
