Eragon

CARTMAG

Mongoose
personaly I think the Eragon universe would be perfect as an RPG unvierse, it has all your classic races but with a pretty good Magic system and so much untapped potential..

read the first book.. in the middle of the second one right now...

No. No. For the love of all that is good and true, NO!

I can create plenty of campaigns based on good fanfiction without having to create one based on bad fanfiction. And given that the film went over like a dragon who had just eaten a boxcar full of cannon shot (it's the candy coating that did the trick), I don't think it's a particularly profitable license for any RPG company.

Yeah, watch the film replacing forests with deserts and magic with The Force. Sandy-haired farmboy and elderly advisor with a past history remain the same... I guess the Dragon is just an X-wing wannabe. It's nearly as well edited out of the Star Wars storyline as The Belgariad. Not quite sure where Lucas looted that tale from in the first place though.

As a book it was perfectly fine, I have read a lot of worse books out there and the characters are interesting and the setting as well.

I enjoyed it enough to want to go out and read the 2nd one.. but then I can't really be judged on that with 6k+ fantasy and sci-fi novels in my house...

I dont know how a comparison can be drawn from star wars, I think thats silly.

I think the book is really good as do a hell of a lot of other people due to the sale of said book and the creation of the movie.

So the line for the love of good litriture was just silly.

A book can be about anything if it appeals to an audiance then its a hit. Just because you dont like it, well to be frank your oppinion is of the minority.

I too have an oppinion but I put mine down as better then 'for the love of good litriture' lets have better discussions as to why we dont like something.

OK plot wise:

Princess is captured by evil overlord for stealing object that will help defeat the evil overlord. Princess manages to get the object away before she is captured.

Sandy haired farm boy, living with his uncle due to the death of his parents, comes into posession of said object.

Sandy haired farm boy meets elderly gentleman who knows stuff and owns a special sword.

Sandy haried farm boy's uncle is killed by the agents of the overlord. Elderly advisor persuades him to help him defeat the overlord.

On the journey, sandy haired farm boy begins to learn about 'magic'.

Farm boy breaks into overlords stronghold and frees the princess, with the help of a rogue companion. This results in the death of the elderly advisor at the hands of one of the overlords lieutenants.

Farm boy joins the rebels, and takes part in a battle to defeats some of the overlords forces, enabling the rebels to continue the struggle against the overlord.

So which story have I just loosly described?

lol ok ok pretty cool.

but i still like eragon and star wars for that matter.

my point is any plot is about some hero slaying this or that rescuing that or this.

all plots have themes that are universal. Good conquers evil ect ect

we can start to draw comparisons with other stories too but then why?

if you didnt enjoy eragon cool,

I have been having a long going discussion with my FLGS owner about plots. And how most fantasy plots will also work in a sci-fi setting. However it is a lot harder to write Sci-Fi as you have less of a suspension of disbelief and your players expect more of an explanation of things.

For example: Fantasy, a wizard uses a crystal ball to view a far away location. No questions are asked. Sci-Fi, a technician keys up a screen showing a far away location. Questions about how the pictures are available, time lag, and assorted other things happen.

Nah, Eragon was a competent beer and munchies fantasy work. The lack of over-mucled heroes was good and the lack of scantily dressed women a dissapointment.

I don't think the Eragon world would make for a good RPG. Your players would want to be Dragon Riders, otherwise it is just another fantasy setting. While there is no doubt a lot of other background fluff that can be included, I don't think it is different enough to be worth a whole product range. Look on it as a Mod for the Runequest system.

Nah, you'd just need Mac from CSI:New York.

Horatio from Miami might be better, but he'd have a special rule about playing with his shades that stops him doing anything else that turn.

Now there's a unit I'd like for BF EVO, a Jethro Gibbs with NCIS squad Laughing

I've got a friend who'll be collecting Marines and we've agreed that he'll nominate one Gunny to be 'Gibbs' - unfortunately this will probably cause me to loose all games against him and his invincible trooper - but I can live with that.

Problem here is that if there are any female models released (I think a distinct possibilty for a near-future game) that he'd be compelled to switch sides and help them off the board. At which point Ziva promptly dispatches him!

Forgot about Mac from CSI NY

Jethro's gun should be constantly referred to as "Kate"

You could name a squad after the 58th Wildcards from s:AAB

When the Ghurkas come out I';ll match your Gibbs against my representation of Mongoose's Ted Chang, assuming Ted will let me that is...
