equipment query

It could be that I am not as familair with 4 ed terms as I could be but I am a little confused on the starting equipment vs additional equipment.

For example: Wraiths start out with Magic Armor enhancement 1. That is any type their character class can wear?

Then in additional equipment many of the fighter class can choose either Magic Armor of Character's choice or Magic Weapon of Character's choice, but they already have a +1 melee and missile weapon and magic armor +1. What benifit would additonal armor give them? Would a wraith need more than 2 magic weapons?

Also why the repeat lines at higher levels?
ie: in the fighter class Lvl 6, Lvl 11, lvl 16 lvl 21 and lvl 26 are identical to lvl 1.

Why is there no choices that would allow characters other than Clerics or Paladins for example to be able to get healing potions?

The answer is probably obvious, but as I said I am a 4th ed virgin!

Yup. Every armour type has its ups and downs, so the player gets to choose.

Additional weapons are never a bad thing. It might be a good idea to have some ranged gear as well as melee items designed to deal with different styles of targets, etc. Additional armour is not as likely as being quick to switch, but it might allow for longer missions to have "stealth" armours and "battle" armours, perhaps. It is all about choices. :)

The original manuscript had enchantment bonuses written in on each line to differentiate them, but basically you just follow the lvl limit written next to them. In 4E, every magic item has a level equivalent, so as long as the Wraith picks an item of his choice of that level or below - all is good.

If you look at the standard equipment for every Wraith, they ALL come with a few potions. It is just that Clerics and Pallies get more. :)

Hope that helps!

Ahh see that makes a bit more sense. Taking the first level choice only allows you armor and werapons available to a first level character. Otherwise I figured at 16th level, take the magic armor that is the best you can get for a lvl 15 character using a first level slot and take a lot of other options to add up to 15. (I am NOT a munchkin, really!!!)

I could see why perhaps an errata witht hat spelled out might keept he arguments down!!!
