Enchanted items and crystals

Here's something I am not quite clear about from reading the rules in RQ and RQ Companion:

Would a character be able to increase the Magnitude of a spell that he has only as part of an enchantment with an MP-storing asset or a POW/Spell Enhancer?

For example, if a character has access to a sword with Bladesharp 5 permanently included, as well as a crystal storing 10 MP (Crystal of the Dead, RQ pg. 43, or a Spell Enhancer, etc.), could he boost the Bladesharp spell up to Bladesharp 15?

A crystal storing MPs can only be used to supply the MPs required to cast a spell - it doesn't boost the spell in any way

A POW Enchancer does boost the magnitude of spells cast through it, so if you know Bladesharp 5 and you cast it through a POW 3 Enhancer, it would act as though you'd cast a Bladesharp 8.

However, in your example, you refer to a sword with a Bladesharp enchantment on it - this would be a Spellcharge enchantment. Spells cast from Spellcharge enchantments cannot have their magnitude altered in any way, including via overcharging or POW Enhancing.

I see, thank you. I almost got that enchantment stuff wrong all over the place.

So the three different forms of "Crystals" are never compatible with a spellcharge enchantment, except maybe the Crystal of the Dead (MP store) for providing the 1 MP necessary to launch a spellcharge?

That is all very logical and limits powerful magical effects. What you explained is mentioned in the Companion on page 40-41. Sorry for not checking that earlier.

Correct, and yes, the CotD can be used to power the spellcharge.
