Elfs, trolls and dwarfs

Do you think that could exist a group of adventurers composed by those ancient races? Did you let this combination in your games? How could this be?

Aldryami, Mostali and Uz will not get along.

But if you play in a more generic fantasy setting there can be ways to have all three races in one group.

1) Maybe there this is a anti racist group, working together against the anti-human human society of the world.
Starting scenario: This is a world of humans. The thinly spread non-humans are disliked, but searching each others company, even if they don´t like each other either, to have a stronger point against the anti-human racists.

2) Maybe they all belong to the same religion. An elf cult, a dwarven cult, and a troll cult... each seperate, but worshipping the same deity. Now these individuals follow the way of their god... and ignoring the races of the others, for the common good of their religion.

3) Maybe they are all outcasts of their societies. Nobody wants them, and they are the only ones to accept each other, because it is better being acompanied by other outcasts than being on your own.

4) Maybe they are under contract by someone, and are forced by this contract to work with each other.

5) Maybe they have all the same enemy, and band together in order to beat him.

etc.

While the concept of Aldryami, Mostali and Uz 'not getting along' seems to be a wonderful understatement, the second age seems to have sufficient major common enemies to promote a temporary truce in the hatred.
EWF and GL are such major threats to the whole God plane that an armed neutrality should be possible, even if it sometimes explodes as a result of ancient feuds amongst the PC's.

just my way of looking at the thing

gran_orco,

Masters of Luck and Death, an Issaries.Inc supplement for 3rd age Glorantha, has one such inter-racial society of adventurers described (by Peter Nordstrand).

The agenda of the society, The Five-Rune Ring, is to resurrect the First Council, as it should have been. The way this group circumvents the reasons the First Council failed seems to be simple: blame the Dragons and the Pelorians.

I can see such a group of liberal utopians existing in Glorantha. Their life can be hard, they will be faced with prejudice, hostility, and open violence. But Glorantha has everything.

Or you could run the campaign in the time of the actual First Council, back in the first age.

We never had a problem with elves, trolls and dwarves together in our games.

The Zorak Zorani and the Yelornan didn't get along and rarely adventured together but they sometimes did. It helped that she could bring down an elephant at 300 yards by shooting through the fly sitting on its forehead.

Our group were not religious bogots, though, and accepted that wierd species had wierd ideas.

The Zorak Zorani even carried the Mostali home when he died and he only ate half of one arm and a bit of his thigh.

So, just let them be and if they get along then fine. If they have geases that cause them problems then make them play the geases but allow them to think up compromises.

One of our Yelmalians challenged the Zorak Zorani to a game of chess every time he saw him "Challenge all Darkness Creatures on sight" and they became quite good at playing.

After all, it's only a game.

Yep did it for years. An elf, a troll, an Orlanth initiate and a trickster. Quite an odd bag but a memorable campaign.

I then tried a campaign where everyone had to have a boring farming set of skills, come from the same stead, worship Barntar, Orlanthcarl or Destor (there were no women :( ) but in exchange allowing them an exciting subcult like Vanganth or Hedkoring (or Orlanth Thunderous if they were Destor). They could also write up a few unique skills and magical family heirlooms.

So of course my subtle, community based farmer campaign turned into a bunch of heroquesting, wilderness wandering, beat the monsters and steal their magic point matrix yokels.

They also wanted to join Humakt, Elmal, Heler and any other cult that gave them the kewlest magics.

Moral of the story, let them have what they want. If someone is adamant they want to play a dragonewt then that means they are going to enjoy themselves if you let them. Mission accomplished.
