Eh?

Yers. Burger got it damn right.

There is little to no difference between Tourney and armageddon. And there was not a isngle complaint back then.

And i dunno what ther problem seems to be. Maneuverabilitywise, the WS is FAR FAR superior to ANYTHING else.

And yes have you seen WS stare down 3 Tinashis and 2 Sharlins? Yes they lost 1-2 WS out of 6, but the Tinashis practically stopped existing. (A little above average stealth, but with Armageddon rules perfectly statistical). Not something that i call an even battle. Well apart from the fact that both is 3 FAP of ships within 10 inches of each other.......

Honestly i wouldnt mind if they changed ONE of the unbalanced aspects of the white star but did they really have to overhaul the ENTIRE thing?

They didn't, they left your beam completely alone...=p

The dodge had to change.

The precise loss I like, but I hava problem with the level of crits in the game. Most fights I get involved in seem to be defined entirely by the crits and whitestars produced way too many for my taste. They still have a precise TD laser which means the crits they do cause are huge. Just remember to get some scouts our there and you will still rule.

Well if precise wasn't lost then something else would have gone, same for the AD. They did have to overhaul the entire thing because the ship needed to be balanced, not just reduced in power from "second best in the game" to slightly overpowered.

For my tuppence worth, I'd have kept the extra AD but lost the dodge point and precise. Balances the WS more and makes it more challenging to play with. As has already been listed, the WS strength lies in Wolfpack tactics, that speed can never be underestimated and will often get 2-3 of your WS into position to give an opponent the benefit of a multi ship pounding.

Yer Wing COmmander has it.

Wolf pack tactics all the way, use speed not to get shot at!

And even Interceptor 6 is pretty useless after 3-4 hits.

White Star fleets now need to be very patient. they can still be very powerful, don't get me wrong! But now, you need position ....

.... pull that fleet out of formation with advanced jump points behind the enemy, distort the rear support fire cones and ship directions ....

.... put multiple WS just out of weapons reach all at long range, waiting to jump out ....

.... and remember that it's perfectly legitimate to spend one turn with no shot if your opponent doesn't get one either and you get position for next turn to get that uncontested shot. This should be classic anti-Centauri stuff. If you have to All Power to overfly that beam cone of a Sulust or Primus, fine. If you get no shot at all in exchange for his Twin Arrays, that can be fine, too. Once you get behind that pig of a Centauri cruiser, you'll own it like pimp.

The Drakh light raiders with their tiny weaponry often fight the same way. Try to distort the fleet -- force it out -- overfly the front weaponry if they haven't defended in depth and get behind for the long haul, or, if they have defended in depth, pick one ship at the edge of the herd and pick it off like wild cats after a sick gazelle.

You can't be a T-rex anymore, bullying your way through to your target. But, last I checked, wolves are a successful evolutionary result, too. The same ideas apply.

I judged the ISA victory at Chicago, and it was quite impressive. A Vic gave a great account of itself, but, now that the ISA have free access, even in tourneys, to scout (Vree) support, they are very --- very very --- dangerous.
