Anyone know if you can get a refund for this if you pod out for a place and then have to back out later?

Of course you can.

(but you really don't want to miss this one :))

Cheers, Matt. I do want to be there but I don't know where I'll be in terms of work come January. I work in catering so that involves a lot of weekend and evening work, and I'm looking to change jobs before Christmas. Could end up working weekends and have to miss this...

Just to double check before I book my room...
Is the weekend being held at Mongoose HQ, Croft Sports Centre, or somewhere else?
I have it in my head that I saw the sports centre being mentioned in relation to the weekend, but I can only see HQ being mentioned on the news post.

Good job I checked! I nearly booked myself into the Premier Inn north of HQ instead. Time to go find where the closest is to Croft now I guess.

The Marriot is closest - you really cannot get closer, and they have a fine bar for Saturday night :)

We have been trying to get a deal with them for all visitors to the event but, like many big hotel chains, they are intractable. They are also possibly the most expensive hotel in Swindon, which is a shame - like I said, they are just a stone's throw away, easy to find, and would have been a great meeting/eating/drinking point for the Saturday night.

The main reason I've been looking at Premier Inn is because I work for them, and as such can get a room for £25/night with them ;)
The closest will still be 2.7miles away, but hey, can't have everything.

travel-lodge is £29.99 so I shall be staying there, unless someone finds a great deal elsewhere

Do you get a discount with them or something? The cheapest that Travelodge is offering me for that night is £39. It is half the distance from the sports centre though.

uh oh, I may regret not booking it, I'll go look again, rats!

arse, it's gone up £10.
anyone know of a local camp site!?

I am told there are the Swandown, Wheatsheaf and Goddard Arms, which are pub-style hotels in the Old Town area, so not too far from the leisure centre.

Ah, now the Wheatsheaf is interesting, as there is a short cut behind it that makes getting to the Croft easy. It is also a most suitable venue for Saturday evening, though possibly too noisey (all the trendies go there at some point in the evening).

No idea what the rooms are like but, as a point of interest, its bar room is where the first Slayer's Guides were written, along with the first draft of A Call to Arms :)

I don't understand why you don't open up the East wing at Sprange Manor for the weekend ;-)

No sorry, just had suggestions for hotels.

ok, cheers, will see what I can find

At least getting the train to and from Bristol each day is feasible for me.

Though I'd rather get a room in whichever hotel most of us end up gravitating towards.
