I like the Omega - classic design (although I think the forward lasers could do with another AD or two). I've got four Orestes which I'm quite fond of using in pre-2250 games in their Dreadnought configuration. Pig-ugly and as slow as molasses but very hard to kill and capable of dealing huge amounts of damage.

Still haven't seen the stats on the Marathon yet. My copy of Armageddon hasn't appeared yet and none of the shops up here have it in either

I've gone with the Marathon even tho I have only used it once, I think that it is a good replcement for the Hyperion and the speed and manouverability of it makes it more likely to be able to use its weapon more often.

I do like the Omega but feel that it is underpowered compared to its direct competitors (Primus & G'Quan) and so dont use it that often.

Start with a Hyperion, up it's damage and crew to more or less Nova levels or a couple of points better- and Hull improves too. Replace it's engines with something off a much, much bigger ship, it's pulse cannon with Warlock LPAs, and it's boresights on a dice for dice level with heavy particle cannon.
Essentially, that's a Marathon. (Oh yes, double Interceptors, and an extra flight of Furies.) It's a sweet total package, but almost a freak in the EA lists- it's going to be a bear to support and escort.

Yer basically it is unsupportable at maximum speed.

But the rest of the fleet has speed centered around 8", but you can give the Marathons a Hermes swarm (only just check that...yikes).

Otherwise i guess they make flanking vessels, or snipers at 6"speed and then unleash hell.

And the Chronos can escort it, as long as the Marathons doesnt go too crazy on the turns. But Chronos Captains will fear for their engines. APTE every round.....

But yes the Marathon is a freak in that list.....freakishly fast.

Burger's ship viewer has it, although the stats he gives for WSC-2 are a copy and paster error, I hope...

Yeah, it's shy 1 AD of Improved Neutron Laser, and 3 AD of Molecular Pulsar

Take what you will from this, and i do own an Omega, but frankly i would perfer the Marathon.

A big thing with how i choose my ships for my fleets is based on looks, i just dont like the look of the earlier EA ships, this includes the hyperion and the omega, needless to say i was slightly angered by the only skirmish option int he crusade era is a hyperion. Back to my point, i really like the look of the newer EA ships, combined with the fact that on paper the marathon is a beter ship and more versatile for its secondaries.

Just my 50 pence worth.

lol you should try being minbari and having only the torotha as a skirmish ship. the joys of being an advanced or advancing race.

At least yours looks like the rest of the fleet, how the hell does a hyperion look like it belongs int he same fleet as a chronos, a delphi or a marathon?

The hyperion doesn't fit in. It is an old ship retained as a troop transport. It might be the only skirmish level ship in the Crusade-era EA fleet, but it is mostly only useful for planetary assaults.

Seriously guys think about things just a bit, fine the Hyperion is in crusade era, it fits just fine its a space worthy frame being utilised to fill a capability gap thats what happens with older stuff.

And they already sais that the EA was following in the Minbari footsteps making the fleet top heavy

"En fluyt"; wooden walled ships that were too old to stand the recoil of their own guns any more frequently were disarmed and relegated to use as troop transports, store ships or other, less creditable uses (prison ships). Bit more difficult with all the gadgetry of a modern warship, though.
Anybody remember Traveller; The New Era, and the Aurora class clipper? Basically, it was a Discovery- looking thing, long spine, that carried the main systems, and you docked function modules on to it- fighter hangars, drop pod launchers, missile bays, turret clusters, etc. Designing ships with that system was like going to the dentist- an immense relief when it was over- but there were some neat ideas like the clippers, and I wonder how much use something like that would be for the EA?

Im currently supressing the urge to buy one, paint it yellow and start singing "We all live in a yellow submarine"

I really dont like hyperions....
