EA Early years - fleet suggestions

Hey guys, doing a try of EA Early against Dilgar at 5 raid. any suggestions for a fleet?
not too much saggi or tethys spam though please.

You'll want at least one Avenger to deal with the Thorun spam.
Multiple fire arcs such as Artemis are useful because Dilgar will be right up close.
High interceptors is useful because all Dilgar's weapons are inteceptable.

an avenger is a must, other than that, high interceptors, or lots of fighter support, and enough sinks to make the pentacon less of a pain!

depends on your source matereal though. I assume he is practising for the Dilgar war event, in which case due to other info, the Avenger is allowed

No-one said anything about ISD's ;)
If it's for the upcoming Dilgar War tournament then Avengers have specifically been allowed.

true but it is in the early years list :D
so thinking:
Nova
Avenger
Saggi
2 Hermes
3 Artemis (one escort variant)
1 Oracle

I'd give the Oracle a miss, Dilgar have no stealth, not even their scouts! Might be worth it for rerolls but pesonally I'd rather have another attack ship.

Olympus-class Corvette
Oracle-class Scout Cruiser
Sagittarius-class Cruiser
and some Tethys-class Missile Boat

Get a lock on with the scout and fire all those missiles into something.

If you want a tank take a Explorer-class Survey Ship lots of hits decent fighters and it's a scout, support it though alone it's rubbish as part of a finely tuned machine it's tough to deal with.

I like the explorer but it does lack crew. and hull 4 against bolters isnt so good.

You use some of it's fighters as interceptors adds quite abit of durability when combined with close blast doors.

If you want durability out of the explorer stick it on concenetrate defensive fire.

My suggestion would be:

2 Hyperion Rail Cruisers
2 Olympus Corvettes
2 Olympus Gunships
1 oracle, 2 Hermes
1 Avenger

This should deal with anything, i would jump in the rail cruisers and the olypus gunships, gunships are horrible in the rear of dilga formations. As for missiles on the olympus use heavy. T

I've tried the Orestes out against the Dilgar, and it's very, very good. 6 dice of beam @ Range 25+6 dice of front railguns+10 dice of AP/TL in it's braodsides+hull 6+interceptors is very nice against the Dilgar.

My fave fleet at the moment against the Dilgar for Early EA is:-

1 Orestes (For the Dilgar War, no Arouras allowed, so Tiger Starfuries)
1 Avenger (Tigers)
3 or 4 Rail Hyperions (Awesome vs. Dilgar) (Tigers)
1 or 0 Olympus Gunboat

That's 13 (14) furies, which should hold off the swarm of dartfighters for a turn or two.

It's a solid, defensive fleet, with OK fighter cover. Could swap a Rail Hyperion and the Gunboat for a Nova, but I like scouts with Early EA Novas, as CAFing is a waste of the arcs, and no rerolls make them very hit or miss, a problem the other ships in the fleet don't really suffer from, as they can all CAF if need be as they have predominantly front firepower. Saying that, most everything also has OK (AP) broadsides at a pinch.

Do u know what kinda Dilgar fleet u will be up against?

In 5 point raid u might can get very different fleet types against you.

Your opponent could get nasty on you and take a Garasoch a few Targraths fill them up with breaching pods (leaving flights to defend em) and eat your Olympos and Tethys alive, while covering the pods with (faster then your fighters) Thoruns which he get four in a Targrath

Although if he does this and u choose Hyperions and a nova then he is screwed :)

Then again as a Dilgar  player I find that Olympos and Artemis are the best match against Dilgars.

If you are dreaming of fighter superiority then forget it. The ever solid Targrath and Garasoch if bound to be found in your opponents list.

The battles against ANY EA (played quite a few) I find there skirmish ships to be the most troublesome. A few interceptors really makes it hard to penetrate with those first turn missiles Dilgar will load up on you.

Protect your weaker hull ships, couse he will be going after those to get your turns balanced so that he wouldn´t have to break that NICE pentagon of Targraths+Ochlavita+Jashakar scout u will be getting against you. Do NOT divide your fleet, as u will only find that u will be outgunned (front arc) in every fight...trying to flank a fleet with 10+ and 2/45 turns on every ship with less movement is a dead mans plan.

if you go for Artemis then keep em in hyperspace with a few Hermes.

I would suggest:

1 Orestes (keep it back as long as u can; CAF, and it will be a fort)
2 Olympos (I would use the Corvette model as u can get some nice missile variants)
2 Artemis (Hyperspace)
1 Oracle (deploy sideways)
2 Hermes (Hyperspace)

Try to get his Jashakars out first, they are easy to kill and you will most likely get him to bind some fighters as interceptors, as u don´t have many in that list...I would say it´s worth the risk not taking many fighters, he will most likely be expecting a Nova, Avenger and a few Hyperions companied by few Tethys...instead he will get a punch of solid and good hitting pack of skirmish vessels right up his neck!

U will have two chances if getting good positions for your jump points, it should not be a problem.

didnt end up playing as my group have gone towards federation commander with the future of CTA in the balance.
played a game of that which was enjoyable.
