EA box sets

I got all three for Christmas. I'm sending about 80% of the fighters back because they were mis-cast (missing engines or wings). The Marathon hull was broken, so that's going back too. Other than these they kits were complete, but they'll require LOTS of clean up and TLC. The castings were poor and the molds show their age. The Omegas were misaligned on their halves, but the problems seems to be permanent to the molds so I'll fight through it.

I got the Early Years and Dawn of Third Age fleets recently and got everything 100% intact, present and accounted for! Can't say anything more than that!

I bought the Early Years boxed set at a con I went to on the weekend, and for the most part the sculpts were rather good. The Novas still had a bit of extra metal on the drive stacks that need to be trimmed but are otherwise ok. Only real issue is that I'm gonna have to drill the majority of the ships to base them, as the holes on the minis are either too small or nonexistent.

Decided to hold back on the Crusade Era boxed set until 2nd Ed comes out so there might be less Nemisis and more Marathon...

Looking forward to the new moulds of the iconic ships though :D

I'm looking at geting my first couple of box sets at the end of the month. What has surprised me is the price range. I have seen the fleets on sale for between £46 - £60! I admit I will have some redundancy money but what about people who are on a tight budget? Anybody else seen them for cheaper?

I figure that 60£ is roughly the official price(based on finnish prices and €->£ conversion rate). 46£ would be then 24% off and I very much doubt you'll find it cheaper anywhere. 24% discount on shelf price is already pretty damn much.

If you are on tight budget choose suitable fleet. Vorlons and ISA for example give you more than enough to fit all but most grandiose plans. ISA could do with WS carrier and full loadout of WS fighters there but that's it.

The fleet boxes are great value. The ISA box contains £102 worth of figures for £55, for example. If you can get one for £46, its a steal!

the fleet boxes are invariably a decent discount over the contents thereof, even at full price.
Agreed, although some have more useful selections of ships than others.

I like the Minbari fleet personally. All you really need to add is a Leshath, a Morshin and a few more fighters and you are good to go. Assuming you can paint the ships without going crosseyed. :P

Between the Minbari fleet box and reinforcement box you have ALL Minbari ships, no other fleet is that easily completed! Got to be worth it. Especially as the fleet box has 4! war priority ships in it.
