EA armageddon ship - Atlantis

I saw a few people were on about EA not having their own armageddon ship so heres one I have been working on stats for. should make an appearance in a future supplement, maybe with some suggested tweaks :D

picture is not mine, but I cant remember where it came from.

edit: forgot lumbering so add this to this ship if you use it.

Seems pretty good to me from an initial read. I'm a little surprised that it didn't feature the Heavy Particle Cannon instead of the Heavy Laser, or the Crusade Standard Gear of a bucket load of Heavy Pulse Cannon pointing in every direction.

Personally, I would swap out the Heavy Laser for the Particle Cannon (and drop the AD a little). Just to make it feel 'right'.

Gives me something to use my Nike as :)

heavy particle cannon is more high tech. this ship is going back towards low tech roots, railguns and light lasers from the omega. hence the heavy laser cannon.
yes it has some tech, natural progression in a weapon system is the adv missile launcher. but the HPC is not progression form a laser cannon as its differant tech.
pulse as well as railguns, light lasers would be a bit much. could have dropped the light lasers for pulse but I like the idea it has more power available so can run the heavier secondaries. also has adira like firepower all round in railguns as well as being on the way to KBT damage. a good old fashioned dreadnought. more about size than tech.

It needs lumbering, like practically every other Armageddon level ship. ^_^

I think its funny that both the ISA and Psi-Corp can build armageddon level ships more agile than the Vorlons...

Then you have the Shadows over there flying around in circles just because they can

Given the ISD I'd maybe look at its fighters being Thunderbolts or even Firebolts (perhaps few less), agree its design and tech seem to suggest lumbering?

aah forgot lumbering, add that to it if you use it. obviously you can change starfurys for t-bolts anyway.

As I said in the other thread. The stats look good enough, but... I'm sorry that thing looks like the bastard love child of an Adira and a G'Quon. It just doesn't do anything for me, it doesn't look anything like an EA ship.

Do I take it from this comment, that you don't play with the "Lumbering" trait?

Personally, I'd be happy to see it dropped for the most part. Low speed and low number/degree of turns are hinderance enough already IMHO.

I'm not certain it needs to be dropped altogether though - some of the faster ships with the lumbering trait (e.g. the Omega) could keep it, but I would change to having to move 75% of max move so it becomes more the opposite of agile.

Dave

whilst thats a good idea in a way it penalises boresight fleets more than the current lumbering.
current lumbering penalises secondaries as cannot move close after turning.
75% turn lumbering penalises boresights due to haveing to move further before turning.

oh and yes i do play with the lumbering trait, just forgot to add it to this :D

An awful lot of problems seem to revolve around rules interactions with boresights. IMHO, this speaks volumes about boresights in general.

I've said it once before that I think boresite would be better as a 45 degree front arc, instead of center line alignment. This still makes it highly restrictive but allows the ship a little more flexibility. With a front arc that small it will be easier for them to target ships at long range, even those that haven't yet moved, while once they get in close they will need to target ships that have already moved as their targets will likely move out of arc.

This would probably also require you to select your target ship during the movement phase.

I'd say a Balvarin had a fling with a Nike, then their daughter got raped by a Ka Bin'Tak and gave birth to the Atlantis.
